Red Bull has been the most dominant team in Formula 1 for the past two seasons. The team’s drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez combined have won an impressive total of 19 out of the 20 races so far this season. Following this dominant performance from the team, it is obvious that the team has faced some backlash over the dominance. So much so, that even Lewis Hamilton has called out the team in recent months
Mercedes dominated the constructor’s championship for a record seven years straight. The team won consecutive championships all the way from 2014 to 2020 and held a very big margin with the runner-up teams much like Red Bull in the past two years. Since 2021, Red Bull has been seriously contending with Mercedes for the top spot in the constructors standings.
Lewis Hamilton has been actively commenting on new developments at Red Bull. The Briton claimed that the dominance of RB19 this season was not healthy for the sport as it provided no margin for competition at the top spot. Now the Red Bull boss Christian Horner has bashed Hamilton over this comment.
In a recent podcast of ‘Eff won with DRS’, Horner opened up more about his thoughts and recalled Hamilton of the Mercedes’ dominant seven-year stint. The boss said that Hamilton has got ‘selective memory’. Additionally, he claimed that Hamilton should be the last person to comment on this kind of news in the sport. Horner also called the Mercedes’ dominance as ‘obscene’ at times in that period.

Some of the winning that they did in that period was just obscene. We’ve had a good run for a couple of years, but the one guy that shouldn’t be saying that, I would think, is Lewis.

Christian Horner recalled the 2021 championship battle
Max Verstappen won the WDC in 2021 in a very controversial battle between the two top runners Verstappen and Hamilton in the final lap. Horner recalled the battle and claimed that the battle was the ‘biggest fight in the history of the sport’. Additionally, he called it unbelievable how both the drivers ended up with the same points and battled it out in the last lap.
The 49-year-old boss exclaimed that the fight in 2021 aged him physically. Commenting over the past two years, Horner felt that they were pleasant for the team and himself. But finally, the boss claimed that the competition will eventually converge and will shorten after every season.
Mercedes has lately been closing in on Red Bull in terms of pace in the recent races. Despite the dominant run this season from Red Bull, Mercedes has continued to try and improve for the coming years and finally competing with Red Bull in the front field once again just like the old days.
