“Cindrella’s already left”: Christian Horner warns the FIA to hurry with their announcement of the 2023 rules
Christian Horner
Trust Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner to make the wittiest of comments to point out the FIA’s flaws whenever he feels the authoritative body of Formula 1 is not being totally transparent and fair about their rulings regarding the Grands Prix. One of the most opinionated men around the F1 paddocks, Christian Horner has never shied away from calling out those whom he considers wrongdoers, be it the Team Principal of a rival team, or the FIA. And now, Christian Horner has spoken up again to let the FIA know that they are already too late in clarifying the rules regarding next year’s car design requirements.
As it is currently a month-long summer break in the F1 2022 Championship season, most of the teams have already started working on their cars for next year so that they can incorporate the changes they have learnt from this year’s campaign and make a better model for next year’s Grands Prix. But even now, the FIA have not clarified several rules such as their requirements for the car height to be raised in order to reduce porpoising. Horner commented that the FIA should announce the rules soon or else it would be too late.
Christian Horner comments “Cinderella has already left” while discussing how the FIA are late in clarifying 2023 rules
During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, the problem of porpoising became so severe that many drivers suffered from physical repercussions due to the repeated bouncing of their cars. The FIA decided to intervene with a Technical Directive, which was issued at the Belgian Grand Prix. But this action by the FIA was criticised by teams like Red Bull who complained that reducing porpoising was an act of “favoritism” by the FIA for Mercedes as they could not come up with a solution to porpoising on their own.
Ever since then, Christian Horner and his fellow Red Bull executives have seized Evey chance to criticize the FIA for their decision to issue that Technical Directive. They also want to know what the FIA has decided regarding rules for the next season of F1 as their cars are already being manufactured and the decision needs to come through fast. When Horner was asked about when he believed the news about the FIA’s rules for next year’s cars will be announced, he said, “I’m hoping this week because it’s 10 past midnight now for next year and Cinderella’s already left. So we really need the FIA to come out with clear rules for next year.”
