Nico Hulkenberg to pair up with Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2024: F1 veteran Peter Windsor predicts amidst Sergio Perez’s failures
Hulkenberg might make the Mexican RedBull driver's life a lot harder
The comeback of Nico Hulkenberg is creating havoc in the paddock. Having participated in only 5 races since his F1 return, he has shown some hidden caliber and has put up some great performances in Haas. In the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, the German driver qualified P2 and all the fans were wowed by his incredible drive. After his exit from the sport in 2020 from the Alpine F1 team, Haas were the first to contact him fill the seat of Mick Schumacher. He proved that Guenther Steiner’s team were right to pull the card on him as he is significantly more consistent that teammate Kevin Magnussen.
For Red Bull, Nico Hulkenberg would be the “perfect number two” to Max Verstappen, said F1 analyst Peter Windsor. Verstappen now has a 69-point advantage in the Drivers’ standings. The Dutch lion’s fourth consecutive victory in this season has brought up further questions about teammate Sergio Perez, who finished sixth in Canada after failing to qualify Q3 for the third time in a row. Given that Perez is driving the same equipment as the defending World Champion, the numbers are not so positive.
Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, former Williams and Ferrari team manager Windsor predicted Red Bull should be interested in deciding whether Hulkenberg, 35, might be a better option than Perez in the second car. He said, “Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull struggled in Q1, struggled in Q2, couldn’t get temperatures right on the slick or on the intermediate, always seemed to be in traffic at the wrong place at the wrong time and that was the difference.”
Nico Hulkenberg might be on his way to Red Bull if Sergio Perez does not get his problems sorted
F1 commentator Peter Windsor expressed a new favourite for RedBull if the Mexican driver continues his poor set of performances through his YouTube channel. He congratulated Nico Hulkenberg for his stellar performance in the slow Haas. He tipped him as a driver Red Bull would like to take up should they think of terminating their deal with Sergio Perez. Windsor commented, “Talk about the perfect number two to Max Verstappen. He wouldn’t want to say number two, of course. Great job again by Nico”.
It’s not the first time Hulkenberg has been linked with Red Bull. In 2019, the German was the frontrunner when Red Bull demoted Pierre Gasly to AlphaTauri due to poor performance in the middle of the season. With his current stint at Haas, the future looks quite bright for Nico Hulkenberg as Peter Windsor’s comments prove many experts have their eyes on him.
