Crashgate mastermind Flavio Briatore speaks up on Max Verstappen’s F1 domination

Max Verstappen is presently dominating Formula 1. The Dutch driver has achieved tremendous success since the inception of the F1 ground-effect era. The two-time world champion is set to claim his third consecutive world title in 2023. Flavio Briatore, the man behind the 2009 Crashgate scandal, revealed his views on Verstappen’s recent success.
Briatore affirmed that the Dutch driver had showcased the immense difference made by a good driver in the sport as Verstappen went on to win the Belgian GP by a lead of over 20 seconds to teammate Sergio Perez despite starting from P6. Flavio Briatore said, “Max Verstappen has shown that the difference is not only made by the car, but also by the driver. He left behind, recovered, gave Perez twenty seconds.”
The former Benetton and Renault chief highlighted the massive 380,000 attendees during the Belgian GP weekend, even though Max Verstappen was expected to be the winner. Briatore believed that such a large audience in the stands showcased that fans remained faithful to F1 as they continued to cherish the spectacle. He explained, “The real protagonist was the audience that was happy even in the rain, they danced, they rejoiced. A show in the show.”

The Crashgate mastermind claimed that rivals, including McLaren and Lewis Hamilton, were far from coming close to challenging Verstappen this season despite the improvements made by teams such as Ferrari. He stated, “The McLaren are wrecked, gone. Hamilton has been in the running for Ferrari a good third place.” However, Brio remained adamant that the Dutchman would continue his winning streak.
Flavio Briatore was convinced that it was time that the grid accepted Max Verstappen as an outstanding driver who deserves to win in F1. The 73-year-old believed that the two-time world champion will remain undefeated for the foreseeable future. Briatore concluded, “We must accept that there is this great champion who is dominating.”
Thus, Flavio Briatore has praised Max Verstappen’s recent success in Formula 1. As the two-time champion continues to annihilate the competition. The former Renault F1 boss believed that fans have not been disinterested to witness Verstappen’s string of success with the massive attendance figures at Spa-Francorchamps. Although, it remains to be seen if the Dutchman can continue his winning streak by the end of the year.
