The 2023 season served as a litmus test for the trio of rookies, including Williams’ newcomer, Logan Sargeant. Unfortunately, his inaugural season has been marked by a rather lackluster performance. Reflecting on the American rookie, compatriot, former NASCAR driver, and current Sky F1 pundit, Danica Patrick did not mince words.
Sargeant has grappled to match the pace of his Williams teammate, Alex Albon, who has consistently out-qualified him throughout the season. Albon has substantially contributed to Williams’ points tally, while Sargeant managed to secure a lone point at his home race. This achievement came after Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc‘s disqualification, making him the first American F1 driver to score points in this century and the first since Michael Andretti 30 years ago.
In the run-up to the Las Vegas GP, Danica Patrick, as reported by GP fans, voiced her candid opinions on American Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant, expressing disappointment over his lack of fame in the USA despite recent successes. Patrick acknowledged Sargeant’s historic achievement of becoming the first American driver in 30 years to score an F1 point.
It’s so cool. I mean, it’s great that an American has had a point.
However, Patrick quickly addressed the apparent gap in Sargeant’s recognition within the United States. This critique seemingly talks about Sargeant’s journey, which saw him climb the motorsport ladder from karting in 2008 to a Formula 2 debut in 2021. However, most of it was family-funded.
We don’t really know him that well in the States. He’s not super famous in the United States, he didn’t really come up through the ranks.
Danica Patrick contends that Logan Sargeant is becoming famous in the US
While Logan Sargeant’s Formula 3 campaigns showcased his competitive edge, the journey lacked the superlative moments that instantly imprint a driver in the American motorsport consciousness. Unlike rapid rises capturing headlines, Sargeant’s path to Formula 1 was measured, with a scarcity of flamboyant victories or standout moments. This may explain the perception that he didn’t seize the spotlight during his ascent.
Speaking about his ascent, Patrick believes that Sargeant’s fame deficit in the USA is due to his rapid ascent to Formula 1 without a substantial presence in American motorsport.
He’s only becoming more well-known now as he spends his time in Formula 1.
Beyond the racetrack, Sargeant’s family ties include being the younger brother of former NASCAR driver Dalton Sargeant and the nephew of billionaire shipping businessman Harry Sargeant III.

As Sargeant takes to the streets of Sin City for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the challenge not only lies in securing another impressive performance on the track but also in capturing the imagination of American fans who may still be warming up to his story. Sargeant is currently battling to secure his seat for next year, and his performances so far have been far from promising.
