Daniel Ricciardo, the Australian driver, is famous for his shoey celebration, a post-race tradition where he drinks the champagne out of his shoe. Ricciardo’s shoey has become a popular and unique celebration on the podium, and he has shared it with many of his colleagues, but the Australian now wants to do it with a ‘pretty and elegant lady.’

Ahead of the Miami GP weekend, Daniel Ricciardo was asked about his shoey celebration and who he would like to share it with. In response, he revealed a surprising choice for his ideal shoey partner – a lady. “I have shared a lot with men. I would love to share one with definitely a lady,” he said. “A lady who is pretty and elegant, ’cause I feel like that’s putting them out of the comfort zone. So, just a beautiful, elegant lady that I would love to do a shoey with.”

The shoey celebration began in Australia and has become a famous drinking event there. The beverage is often poured into a shoe that is tilted to allow the beverage to settle before consumption. The shoey is frequently connected with sports and music festivals and is viewed as a method to commemorate triumph over hardship. Alcoholic liquids, such as champagne, are the most usually utilised for a shoey.

Daniel Ricciardo started the tradition in Formula One in 2016 when he performed a champagne shoey to celebrate a podium finish at the German Grand Prix. Ever since then, many drivers have shared the Australian’s trademark celebration including Lewis Hamilton, who said he had instantly regretted it. Others who have performed the shoey with Ricciardo include his former Red Bull teammate, Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll at Stroll’s first podium. Daniel Ricciardo did not shy away from suggesting Hollywood stars like Patrick Stewart to do the shoey too.

Ricciardo’s comments have caused a stir among his fans, who are eager to know who this special lady could be. Some speculate that he may have found someone, while others believe that he is simply looking for a woman to share the iconic celebration with.

Ricciardo has had a total of 19 podiums since the 2016 German GP, meaning fans had to witness a lot of shoeys with the last one coming at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, where he led his former team, McLaren to an iconic 1-2 finish which till date marks the only victory the Woking team had over a decade. Ricciardo left the team to make way for a fellow Australian rookie, Oscar Piastri.

Ricciardo, who is currently the third driver for his old family, Red Bull, recently attended the 2023 Met Gala, where he met Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway, who stated she is a passionate F1 fan. While fans anticipate his signature podium celebration, it remains to be seen whether Oscar Piastri will follow in his predecessor’s footsteps if he ever wins a podium this season.
