The Formula 1 paddock has been busy in the past few days. Lewis Hamilton‘s shock announcement to join Ferrari in 2025 surprised the sporting world. However, the seven-time world champion’s decision to leave Mercedes has presented a massive opportunity for drivers who want to race for the Silver Arrows. Now, former Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat has jokingly teased such a move.
Kvyat recently did a Q&A on Instagram. The Russian driver asked his followers what he was dreaming of in his sleep. Fans did not hold back as many reckoned that the 29-year-old was probably wishing to replace Lewis Hamilton. Moreover, another user speculated if Daniil Kvyat wanted to rejoin Red Bull.

The former F1 driver had been part of the Red Bull family for several years. Kvyat raced for Milton Keynes in 2015 and the first four rounds of 2016 before being demoted back to Toro Rosso to make way for Max Verstappen.
Daniil Kvyat replied to the aforementioned comments hilariously. The 29-year-old uploaded a story while pretending to be on two phone calls, one to Mercedes and one to Red Bull. Certainly, the Russian driver admitted that he would love to replace Hamilton at Brackley or perhaps partner Verstappen at Milton Keynes.

Could Daniil Kvyat be on Mercedes’ list to replace Lewis Hamilton?
Lewis Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari has put Mercedes in a tough spot. Team Principal Toto Wolff would need to find a suitable driver to fill in the shoes of the seven-time world champion. However, the 52-year-old has made it clear that the team would not rush this decision and consider all options.

Daniil Kvyat spent multiple seasons in F1 with the now-renamed Visa CashApp RB team. The 29-year-old was the go-to-driver for Red Bull to fill a seat at the Faenza-based team. However, the Russian driver failed to establish himself as a contender for a top team after his demotion from Red Bull. Kvyat will be racing for Lamborghini Iron Lynx in the World Endurance Championship in 2024.
Certainly, despite Kvyat’s interest, it is unlikely that the 29-year-old is called up by Toto Wolff. The Silver Arrows have ample time to find a replacement for Lewis Hamilton. Alex Albon could be the best bet for Mercedes. Although, it remains to be seen who Wolff ends up signing for the 2025 F1 season in the coming months.
