David Coulthard age-shames Fernando Alonso, criticises the ‘off form’ Aston Martin racer’s Singapore GP performance

Fernando Alonso had a disappointing outing at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The F1 veteran who’s been rolling back the years this season finished outside the top 10 in Singapore. Alonso also incurred a 5 second time penalty as he slid out on the track while entering the pit lane. The penalty added flame to Alonso’s existing woes.

David Coulthard has commented [Planet F1] on the Spaniard’s race. “That’s normally not at all the way he is. He’s just an absolute samurai fighter and just keeps going.” said the former racer. Coulthard has raced against Alonso during his championship winning years and has certainly seen the current Aston Martin driver at his best.

Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin’s decline

Fernando Alonso started the season in high-spirits at Aston Martin. The Veteran claimed his delight in a famous radio call as he drove the car Aston has conjured for the 2023 season. Fernando achieved 6 podiums in the first 8 races in the car and looked a formidable duo.

Aston Martin started the season as runners-up in the Constructor’s Championship behind Red Bull. However, Alonso has finished on the Podium only once in the last 7 Grands Prix. Questions are asked whether Aston Martin have taken a misstep in developing the car.

Even after having a competitive car in the opening rounds, which hasn’t deteriorated, Aston seem to have lost their footing. The reason is simply that the other manufacturers have caught up with Aston’s developments. Mclaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes appear to have triumphed the Aston’s package as they’ve continued to upgrade their cars throughout the season.
