Williams’ Logan Sargeant currently stands in 19th position in the driver’s standings with no points to his name. The American spun out of control in Hungary on turn 12 in the final laps, forcing him to finish his race in the pits. Recently, former F1 driver David Coulthard aimed the rookie, saying that Nyk de Vries’ run in F1 was better than Sargeant’s.
Comparing both drivers’ performances, Coulthard said that, on average, de Vries used to be within two-and-a-half-tenths of his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. At the same time, Sargeant is consistently five-tenths behind Alex Albon.
Coulthard believes that the reason for Sargeant still having his seat at Williams is due to his nationality. F1 is witnessing massive popularity growth in the U.S. Sargeant, being an American, plays a crucial role in bringing in a lot of funds for the team.
“This is a stopwatch championship, so you either deliver the lap time or you don’t. He’s [Sargeant] bringing money to the team and given a bit of space, American, that fits I guess the overall growth of Formula 1 right now. So I think we should only ever look at the lap time rather than…this isn’t a personality competition,” Coulthard told Channel 4.
Sargeant is definitely in a typical position. He is outperformed by his teammate Alex Albon in every race, who is six places ahead of him in the Driver Standings with 11 points. The American must improve his form to keep racing in F1.

Williams driver Alex Albon is being eyed by Ferrari and Red Bull
Williams’ Alex Albon has been performing exceptionally well this season. His performance stood out in the Canadian GP, where he finished P7. This is also Williams’ best finish until now in this season. His performances have not gone unnoticed by the rival teams, particularly Red Bull and Ferrari, who have shown interest in the Thai driver.
Ferrari’s team principal Fred Vasseur, while happy with the current pairing of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, has acknowledged Albon’s feats. Because Sainz’s contract expires at the end of 2024, Vasseur might see Albon as a suitable replacement for the Spaniard.
Red Bull chief Christian Horner also expressed post-Canadian GP how impressed he was with Albon. Horner said that he was watching Albon’s race as much as was watching their own. As Albon’s driver receives this much attention, it will not be long before he moves out of Williams.
