The seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton‘s contract with Mercedes will expire at the end of the 2023 season. However, there is an ongoing discussion between the parties regarding his contract. While there has been speculation about Hamilton’s possible retirement, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali hopes that the Briton will remain in the sport.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Domenicali said, “I really want him to stay in the sport, 100 per cent. I don’t want to give Lewis advice because it wouldn’t be respectful towards [Mercedes team principal] Toto Wolff. And Lewis has so much experience I’m sure he doesn’t need my input because he knows what he wants. Formula 1 is his love and of course, he wants to realize his dream as the only driver with an eighth title.”

The CEO also emphasized the value that Hamilton brings to F1. He stated how Lewis Hamilton‘s passion for Formula 1 is evident, as he has been actively involved in it since his early years. However, his impact extends beyond being an F1 world champion.

Hamilton’s engagement in various endeavors outside of racing showcases a different role in the sport. He uses his platform to bring about positive change and elevate Formula 1 to new heights.

According to Domenicali, he anticipates that Mercedes will exert every effort to facilitate a contract renewal with Lewis Hamilton. He highlights that Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes, is wholeheartedly dedicated to enhancing the team’s performance.

Wolff has communicated his commitment to implementing changes within the team to ensure an optimal level of intensity, facilitating swift improvements in performance.
