Nyck de Vries tragically ended his F1 story that began in Monza 2022. The Dutchman scored points on debut with Williams, replacing Alex Albon. De Vries was selected by AlphaTauri to drive full-time for them alongside Yuki Tsunoda in the 2024 season.
The Formula E and F2 Champion shockingly performed horrendously bad compared to his teammate, and was sacked by the team just halfway through the season. Tom Coronel is a Dutch racing driver, racing super touring cars before becoming a Formula 1 pundit. Coronel heavily opposes his compatriot de Vries’s sacking, saying that de Vries could do nothing with the terrible car, branding the vehicle a “toilet on wheels.”
Ricciardo performed well straight away, but in those races things could have gone the right way for Nyck too. He just needed a little more time. I firmly believe that things would have gone well for him too. Let's not forget that the car he had was a toilet on wheels.Tom Coronel said, as reported by formulapassion.it
Nyck de Vries will not be taking a break after his departure from F1, going back to full-time racing in 2024. The Dutchman returned to the Formula E series, in a comeback campaign after having won the title once prior to his Formula One stint.
Nyck de Vries explains plans to manage WEC and Formula E simultaneously
Nyck de Vries was axed by AlphaTauri, the sister team for Red Bull just ten races into the 2023 season. This put the Dutchman without a seat in F1 for 2024, which meant he had to look for a drive in a different series.
Luckily for the 28-year-old, his old team Mahindra with whom he previously won the Formula E title agreed to give him a seat in 2024. In addition to that, de Vries also signed a deal with Toyota Gazoo racing to compete in the 2024 WEC season. De Vries explained that managing both series would be possible for him, as he had done so while driving in LMP2 during his Formula 2 campaign.
I've always said that the more you drive the better it is. I also previously combined Formula 2 with the WEC [in LMP2], and later also Formula E and the WEC, and changing between those was fine.Tom Coronel said, as reported by racingnews365.com
Nyck de Vries will be partnering older, more seasoned teammates Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi at Toyota Gazoo Racing, hoping for a title charge immediately upon his return to the series. The Dutchman has also said that he prioritizes a win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans over the WEC championship.
