Former F1 driver claims Lewis Hamilton’s ‘era of triumphs’ is over amidst two-year winless stint

Lewis Hamilton is an all-time great in F1 history. The British driver has achieved record-breaking success over the years with Mercedes. However, the Silver Arrows have struggled to match Red Bull in F1’s ground-effect era. Subsequently, the seven-time world champion has failed to fight for race wins. Now, former F1 driver Eddie Irvine has claimed that Hamilton’s winning years are over in Formula 1.

Irvine made a bold claim that Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ era of dominating the sport was over. Although, the former Ferrari driver reckoned that the Briton was still a formidable driver behind the wheel of F1 machinery. Eddie Irvine believed that it would be difficult to compare Hamilton with Max Verstappen as the young Dutchman seemed to have more speed and confidence.

Hamilton and Mercedes' era of triumphs is over. He continues to do very well behind the wheel of an F1, although the comparison with Verstappen is difficult because Max is younger, he has a little more speed and a huge belief in his own ability.

The 58-year-old was convinced that Lewis Hamilton could win a couple of races if Mercedes gave him a good car. The seven-time world champion has failed to win a single race in the sport since the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP. However, Eddie Irvine claimed that Hamilton won’t be able to win a record-breaking eighth world title.

If they build a fast car, then Lewis can undoubtedly win one or more races, something he hasn't accomplished in the past two seasons... However, I doubt that he can conquer the championship again and fulfill his dream of an eighth title.

Can Lewis Hamilton win a race in 2024?

Lewis Hamilton remains as hungry as ever to win at the pinnacle of motorsport. The seven-time world champion recently signed a contract extension with Mercedes to race for the Silver Arrows till the end of 2025. As such, it is clear that the 39-year-old is willing to race in his forties in F1 in a bid to achieve his dream of an eighth title.

However, this will be an uphill task for the British driver. Mercedes has failed to match Red Bull in terms of pace for the past two seasons after a wrong design concept. However, Hamilton has been visiting the factory more often before the start of the upcoming season. The seven-time world champion has ensured that the Silver Arrows work on his requests for the 2024 challenger.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton has lost no pace in the last couple of seasons. The British driver remains one of the best drivers in the sport. As such, Hamilton would capitalize on any opportunities in 2024. However, it remains to be seen if Mercedes could give the seven-time world champion a car capable of winning races this year.
