Emerson Fittipaldi claims Lewis Hamilton might show SURPRISE return to winning ways at Red Bull’s backyard

Even though the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton hasn’t yet achieved victory this year, he is still demonstrating all of his talents as he and Mercedes strive to resume their winning ways. In fact, he has been consistently strong this year, and with Mercedes just upgrading their car, he has had a significant impact on the W14’s performance. After Lewis Hamilton ‘got his act together,’ Mercedes might spring up a “surprise” the Austrian Grand Prix, according to former Formula One champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Since his recent record has improved, Hamilton appears more likely than ever to fight Max Verstappen for the Grand Prix victory.

Fittipaldi thinks Hamilton is in a good spot to take on the Dutchman and might benefit from using Austria. He said in an interview when F1 revised the rules a year ago, George Russell had a better car combination, but Lewis has since recovered well. Lewis Hamilton is adjusting to the car and trying to help with its development. There is no denying that George Russell is a very brilliant young driver, but Lewis has so much more experience and a more diverse background that he can assist the team develop the car, and he is now returning. “In the races, he’s running better; he’s passing in traffic, moving ahead, and positioning himself. The wisdom is obvious.”, he said.

Fittipaldi said when he heard Toto Wolff say that they have new upgrades for the next few Grands Prix, he realised it will not be a big surprise if Mercedes run very strong now. He said Fernando will be contending for sure. Fernando has been on the podium often this season and he’s feeling very good and determined. The team will be putting in the effort. After several times in the wilderness, Hamilton has come back, earning podiums in Barcelona and Canada. The seven-time world champion had previously attributed his difficulties to Mercedes’ W14 and W13 during the previous year.

At the British Grand Prix, Mercedes intends to unveil a more significant update to its 2023 Formula 1 vehicle since it is observing a greater correlation between factory performance and on-track results. “We are bringing a larger one to Silverstone and we should have another one before [summer break] shutdown,” Wolff said. Lewis Hamilton claims that his Mercedes Formula 1 team is now progressing in the right way as it gets past last year’s “spiteful” W13.

When asked to elaborate on his experiences with the upgraded package, Hamilton emphasized that confidence was the key to approaching the limit. He also made mention of his stunning crash in Austria’s third quarter of the previous year, in which he was unanticipatedly caught off guard. Hamilton thinks “fundamental changes” must still be made despite the recent adjustments and the ensuing improvement in form if the W15 is to challenge at the front in 2024.
