Mick Schumacher lost his seat in 2022 after Haas’s ousted team boss Guenther Steiner decided to end their partnership with him in favour of Nico Hülkenberg. Now Esteban Ocon has come out with a statement and has taken the side of his German friend that he deserves to be on the F1 grid following the silly season madness commencing behind.

In several interviews, the French driver stated that Schumacher is his good friend and he has a healthy relationship with him. The German driver is performing a dual role currently in 2024, as he is a Mercedes Reserve driver for their F1 team and also Alpine’s driver in the World Endurance Championship(WEC). It will be a crucial year for him and his performance will determine whether he gets a seat back in the circus or not.

Mick[Schumacher] deserves a place in Formula 1, that's clear. He has shown that he can win championships in Formula 3 and Formula 2, I want to see him in Formula 1 in the near future. Having him on board is fantastic for our Endurance team – Mick brings with him a lot of experience, expertise and talent. I really hope they win Le Mans this year, I will be rooting for them.

Ocon is one of Schumacher’s supporters and believes he deserves a seat in the epitome of racing. The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire after the end of the 2024 season, but it is believed that he will renew his contract with the French manufacturer instead of joining the Silver Arrows after the shock departure of Lewis Hamilton. Schumacher is believed to be one of the best contenders for the WEC title and will be giving his best for the same.

What are the aims of Alpine for the 2024 season?

Alpine has an all-french lineup with the extremely talented drivers of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon. The Renault works team has always been at the spearhead of the mid-field, and has never been able to break through into the top 3 for more than a decade.

Alpine’s team principal Bruno Famin has said that he has set no targets for the 2024 season for the team. The team is currently restructuring their facilities at the Enstone base and is working extensively to make its 2024 challenger better.

There’s a lot of expectations, we are excited, for sure, it’s a brand new car, but to me there is no optimism. We know that the road is long. We know that we have a lot to do. We know where we want to go to fight in front. But we know that the road is long. We have a lot of things to improve everywhere across the company.
Bruno Famin said as reported by racefans.net

Famin had replaced Otmar Szafnauer before the start of the 2023 season. The team had set the target to finish in the top 3 in the 2023 season but had failed to achieve their target by a long shot. The team now braces themselves for the 2024 season and is realistic about their expectations.
