There has been a lot going on in Alpine the past week, but the latest update that the team principal, Otmar Szafnauer gave is completely different; he stated that Esteban Ocon, who has a seat in the team for the 2023 season, could take the team forward. 

Everything started after Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement. Fernando Alonso, who was hoping for a contract extension with the team, didn’t get so after it was revealed that they were underpaying the 2-time World Champion in the new contract. He decided to leave the team for next season and join Aston Martin. 

Later on, the team announced Oscar Piastri, a talented F2 driver, as the replacement, but interestingly enough, Piastri, who is associated with the team, announced on social media that there was no contract signed and he wouldn’t be driving for the team in 2023. The Australian is said to have inked a contract with McLaren and immediately denied that he would be competing for Alpine in 2019. He did this on social media. Nico Hulkenberg, a former Renault driver, is on the list, but many of them lack Esteban Ocon’s level of expertise, making him the likely de facto team leader for the upcoming season.

Esteban Ocon has immense talent, according to Otmar

The team principal stated that Esteban Ocon showcased his talent while being in Force India, alongside Sergio Perez in 2017 and 2018. He recalled working with him in the team, and seeing his potential, according to the Romanian, Esteban needs a little time to get perfect in the car; 

“He needs three or four laps and he’s at 99%, or 99.9%, and that extra 0.1% comes with a few laps more, if you know what I mean, whereas Esteban takes a little bit more time to get the maximum out of the car,” Autosport quoted him.

Now, since the team hasn’t decided on the empty seat in the team, Ocon seems to be their only hope to score some winning points in the 2023 season.
