“Even with a 360° we won the race”: Max Verstappen delighted with perfect Sunday outing in Hungary

The Red Bull pair of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen went into the Main Race at Hungaroring today with only one aim in their minds–to score some plausible Championship points for the team and plaster their spot at the lead of the Constructors’ World Championship table. But during the course of the race, some mind-blowing tactics adopted by the great strategical team at the Red Bull pitbox made sure Max gets the race victory at a Grand Prix where he started from tenth on the grid.

The Hungarian Grand Prix indeed turned into a game of who unlocks the best strategies on the racetrack. This was because the hard tyres did not give enough pace to the racers and the medium tyres were not going to last that long as the cars had to go 70 laps before the checquered flag was shown.

In conditions like these, Ferrari’s plans fell through as they took some flawed decisions which resulted in yet another weekend of despair for the Maranello outfit. And taking advantage of that, Red Bull called Max Verstappen into the pits at the right time, gave him the right tyres and the Dutchman cruised to the finish line and grabbed his 7th victory of this season.

Max Verstappen was absolutely ecstatic after winning the Hungarian Grand Prix as this was a circuit where Red Bull were not particularly favoured to win. The Milton-Keynnes-based team has last won at Hungaroring back in 2018 with Daniel Ricciardo behind the wheels at that time. Even Helmut Marko had expressed his concerns about their team’s chances in Budapest in an interview which was taken in the days leading up to the Grand Prix.

But in the end, Max Verstappen managed to break Red Bull’s Hungarian curse as he got an amazing victory and with this, he is now going into the summer break with 258 points to his name. Reacting to his race,ax Verstappen said, “Very tricky conditions out there but we had a really good strategy… and even with a 360° we won the race. It was a lot of fun out there.”
