Lewis Hamilton finalized his bombshell move to Ferrari by signing a multi-year deal with Maranello. However, the team principal Toto Wolff has yet to announce the driver to fill in the footsteps of the seven-time world champion. Now, as the team prepares for the upcoming season, the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, Mick Schumacher hinted at his wishes to join Brackley following the Briton’s departure.

Mick Schumacher is currently the reserve driver for Mercedes in Formula 1 and also is a part of Alpine’s World Endurance Championship. The 24-year-old mentioned how the seat at Brackley would be free after Hamilton joins Ferrari in 2025. Hence, the German driver was eyeing a return to Formula 1 and hoping for the dream to come true again.

I'm of course aware that Lewis' Mercedes seat will then be free, I'm still keeping an eye on Formula 1 and hopefully, the dream will come true again.
Mick Schumacher told Sky Germany.

However, the former Haas driver acknowledged that his roles as Mercedes F1 test driver and WEC duties at Alpine were equally important. Hence, if the German driver performed well, the sky was the limit. Subsequently, Schumacher could potentially re-enter Formula 1 and fill in Hamilton’s empty seat. So Mick Schumacher continues to keep an eye out for a potential seat at Mercedes from the following season onwards.

But in the end it's important that I also do my things and see my role as a reserve driver - and especially my role as a WEC driver in the foreground. If I perform well, let's see where it takes me.

Mick Schumacher claims Mercedes aware of his capabilities for F1 return

Mick Schumacher was confident in his capabilities as a driver and mentioned that the crew at Mercedes were aware of his driving skills. Hence, the German could be a great fit to replace the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at Brackley. The 24-year-old currently needs to put his head into the WEC and excel there to gain attention in the world of motorsport.

Hamilton’s move has put Mercedes in a spot to look at their options for the driver to be paired up with George Russell. The majority of the drivers’ market would open up by 2025 and hence Wolff isn’t in a hurry to finalize a driver. Regardless, Mick Schumacher hopes to impress more people in WEC and Formula 1 to finally seal his seat at one of the best teams in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Lewis Hamilton will conclude his ultimate season as a Mercedes driver in Formula 1. Hence, the Briton wants to finish the season on a ‘high’ and potentially contend for the world championship down the season. However, with Red Bull’s pace during the testing sessions, the teams look doubtful of their chances of winning down the season.
