After a horrific multi-car collision at Spa-Francorchamps, 18-year-old Dilano van ‘t Hoff lost his life. The racing world was shocked by this tragic incident, and messages of condolence flooded the internet. Several F1 drivers, including countryman Max Verstappen, were sad about the accident. Formula One, too, paid tribute to the life of the young Dutch driver.

Prior to the start of the race, Formula One paid their respects to Van’t Hoff in the form of a minute’s silence. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, accompanied by Bruno Michel, CEO of both Formula 2 and Formula 3, stood at the forefront of the starting grid. Formula 2 also paid a touching tribute to the young driver, honoring his memory in a similar fashion.

F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali expressed his profound sadness over the tragedy. He stated that they were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dilano van’t Hoff in Belgium. Domenicali further mentioned that Dilano lost his life while chasing his dream of reaching the pinnacle of motorsport. He added that their thoughts, along with the entire motorsport community, were with Dilano’s family and loved ones.

“We are so sad to learn of the passing of Dilano van’t Hoff today at Spa-Francorchamps. Dilano died in pursuit of his dream to reach the pinnacle of motorsport,” he said. “Along with the entire motorsport community, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” the F1 CEO concluded.

Drivers from the racing community have expressed their condolences and shared their heartfelt tributes for Dilano on social media. They have conveyed their deep shock, overwhelming sadness, and extended sympathies to his family and friends. This tragic loss of young Van’t Hoffoserves as a reminder of the inherent risks involved in the sport.

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll expressed strong views against the iconic Eau Rouge corner at Spa. He also noted that every time they pass through Eau Rouge, there is a potential for accidents. Similarly, his teammate Fernando Alonso also displayed his grief regarding this loss. Alonso urged the officials to take necessary actions to avoid such tragedy. Max Verstappen’s Instagram post for Van’t Hoff earned a reply from one of his relatives.

Dilano van ‘t Hoff was widely recognized as a promising young talent in the motorsport industry. Despite only 18 years old, he had already demonstrated remarkable potential and was viewed as an up-and-coming star. Van’t hold ventured into single-seater racing in 2021 at 14.
