Dutchman Max Verstappen has showcased his amazing racing skills backed by three consecutive F1 world titles under his belt. However, Lewis Hamilton‘s seven championships have been one of the greatest feats in the history of Formula 1. Verstappen’s recent performances indicate that he could potentially match if not break the championship record at the pinnacle of motorsport.
Former Ferrari and Williams Team Manager Peter Windsor was quizzed on the chances of Verstappen equaling seven championship titles like Hamilton. Windsor had a sure answer to this question as he reckoned that the Dutchman could achieve this record. Additionally, the 71-year-old highlighted the reasons why Verstappen was overachieving in Formula 1 alongside the dominant team Red Bull.
For sure he could, absolutely. One of the reasons he is so good now, so intense, and this is one of the reasons he’s good, is because he’s always been in a very good team with a very good car and knows those people well, particularly [Red Bull design chief] Adrian Newey and [team principal] Christian Horner.Peter Windsor said on his YouTube channel
The majority of the records in Formula 1 have been etched under the Dutchman’s name and would likely not be broken any time soon. While Lewis Hamilton tops other major records, including Pole Positions and race victories. Hence, Windsor claimed that Verstappen, luckily driving the dominant RB-19 designed by Red Bull, has been in sync with the car he pilots on the grid.
I don’t like comparing eras, but I can’t think of another driver who has been so in-sync with the car he drives, which happens to be, for the most part, a racing-winning car.
Peter Windsor raises doubts over Mercedes winning another championship during Max Verstappen’s era
The Brackley put forth a very mediocre season in 2023 and were unable to compete with Red Bull for the championship even for a brief moment. Hence, Mercedes needs to desperately work over their challenger for the following season in an attempt to challenge Max Verstappen and the other constantly improving drivers on the grid.
Even if Mercedes would successfully develop a car capable of competing for the championship, other teams would likely be developing rapidly as well according to Peter Windsor. However, all these situations would be worth discussing after eliminating the factor that Verstappen would likely dominate the 2024 season and win the championship as well.
Notably, Red Bull and multiple others on the grid have claimed that replicating a performance similar to 2023 would be very difficult for Milton Keynes. However, the team would likely perform on its A-game and the RB20 would follow in the footsteps of the previously dominant RB19 as Adrian Newey has showcased his crafting skills for a long time.
