Former F1 Team Owner, Eddie Jordan has blasted Toto Wolff for criticizing his own team’s technical staff for the disappointment of Bahrain. At the Bahrain International Circuit, Mercedes was nowhere near Red Bull in terms of pace and was not even able to keep Fernando Alonso behind, who was running in an Aston Martin.

Toto Wolff was furious with the Brackley-based team’s technical staff in Bahrain. After the first qualifying session of the 2023 F1 season, Wolff said that his team had followed the wrong development path with the development of the W14. This was not the last of the German’s rant, as after the Bahrain GP, he deemed Mercedes’s outing as “one of the worst days [of] racing.”

While Wolff has not held back in saying what he thinks of his team this year, Eddie Jordan has asked the German to have a nice hard look at his comments. In Jordan’s opinion, it does not suit a Team Principal to publicly criticize his own team.

Being a former F1 team owner, Jordan understands how unnecessary criticism could adversely affect the team’s morale. Moreover, the season is just one race down, and Wolff could have waited for a few more races to share his opinion with the team.

Eddie Jordan, while addressing Toto Wolff’s recent comments, said, “He’s the CEO, he’s the boss. The buck stops with him. This is happening under his watch. To blame or criticize anybody in his design team is actually disingenuous. It’s really crass.”

“I hate to hear that, because he must be a man, stand up and take it on the chin and say, ‘my team, my people, we have failed to get the job successfully done at this moment. However, there are times ahead that we’re looking forward to and we will be there much stronger than we were in 2022”.

I think that Toto is strong enough, big enough, and man enough to front this up and actually sort it out. It’s going to be interesting to watch their particular recovery journey. Twenty-three races in this season [so] they’ve got more races than at any time in history to try and win things back but development doesn’t stop for the fast teams as well, so it is going to be a huge challenge for them.”

Eddie Jordan has talked in detail about Toto Wolff and his working methods. Moreover, has even gone on to say that the German is not man enough to get Mercedes out of the mess that it has found itself in. Considering their strong words of Jordan, would the former giants of the sport be able to bounce back?

As Jorhan said, there are 23 races this year, and 22 are still on the F1 calendar. The Mercedes F1 Team has got a huge task on its hands this year with the development of the W14. However, considering the pedigree of the team, would Toto Wolff and Co. be seen fighting at the front end of the grid this year?
