“Get Jeff Bezos out of the garage,” Fans blame the Amazon billionaire for McLaren’s Q1 exit in Miami GP

The tumultuous Qualifying Round for Miami Grand Prix proved to be a massive ordeal for McLaren. Right ahead of the Qualis, McLaren and Red Bull became the talk of the F1 town as the two teams hosted the billionaire business Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk at their pits respectively. Bezos was present at the Miami International Autodrome with his girlfriend Lauren Sánchez, and his images of donning the headphones in reverse broke the internet.

But the Amazon CEO’s visit did not prove to be prosperous for the papaya squad as both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri exited the run as early as Q1. The McLaren team had some new floor upgrades installed ahead of the Baku Grand Prix which did not come to their aid as such in Azerbaijan. Before flying to Miami, McLaren got new front suspension as well, hence they were optimistic about Miami. Unfortunately for the Woking-based team, their outing on Saturday proved to be an utter disaster.

After the first Qualifying Round, the bottom five were eliminated from the run for the top spot at the Miami GP. The unlucky ones include Lando Norris, who narrowly missed out on his chance to get into Q2. He is followed AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll. In the 19th spot on the grid is Lando’s teammate Oscar Piastri. And Logan Sargeant is going to start right behind his former F3 mate from the last spot on the grid at his home Grand Prix.

Ahead of the Miami GP, Zak Brown gave an interview where he sounded confident as he said Oscar Piastri is World Championship material. But hours later, the young Australian finished second last at the Miami Qualifying, raising many questions on his racing abilities. On top of that, fans are convinced McLaren is more focused on making a spectacle out of their pitwall guest Jeff Bezos than racing properly. Hence, they aimed all their frustration for McLaren performing poorly at Jeff Bezos, claiming him for the papaya duo’s early exit from Quali.

Here is what the fans had to say about Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri ending up in bottom 5 at the Miami GP Qualifying Round–

In other news, McLaren’s Lando and Oscar were not the only drivers who performed surprisingly poorly at the Miami Qualifiers. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who drew up a P6 finish in Baku last week, could not even reach Q3 as he exited the Quali at the fourteenth position. Even Championship leader Max Verstappen will have to start from P9 for the Main Race as he could not set a lap time in Q3 due to the red flag situation after Charles Leclerc’s accident.
