“How in the f*** is that possible” – Fans cry out as McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri get out of Q1 in Las Vegas after MCL60 wing revamp
The McLarens got a shocking result on Friday during the Qualifying as both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri bowed out in Q1 ahead of the Las Vegas GP.
The Las Vegas GP Qualifying is finally underway after some below-par Free Practice sessions and it turned out to be a disaster for McLaren. This is the first time when all the cars will be getting out on the track in a competitive capacity. The first Free Practice had been cancelled within 9 minutes of its commencement since Carlos Sainz crashed his SF-23 against a manhole cover. Then came the FP2 which was held without a single audience in the grandstands at 1:00 AM. At FP3, another crash happened as Alex Albon stalled the session during the last 5 minutes of it.
The Qualifying at the Las Vegas GP started off on Friday with the racers dreading the all-new circuit and the low temperatures. And it has been a disappointment for McLaren racers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The youngsters had to bow out of the session during the very first part, ie, Q1 as they were outperformed by all their rivals except Yuki Tsunoda of AlphaTauri. The fans were naturally devastated at the results, especially since they were expected to do well due to their advantage on high-speed straights.
Team Boss Zak Brown spoke to the commentators Martin Brundle and David Croft and he explained where McLaren fell short. He said their car thrives in high speed corners, which are not present in the Las Vegas circuit.
We thought we'd struggle this weekend, but we didn't think either car would be out in Q1.Zak Brown said, as reported by SkySports F1.
Fans claim to hold crying sessions at their homes to mourn McLaren’s exit during Q1 at Las Vegas Qualifying
With McLaren’s stellar line-up of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, it is natural for the fans to believe their favorite team stood a great chance in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the MCL60 did not have enough pace to give a befitting contest to the rivals. Thus, the first part of the Qualifying Session ended with both McLarens getting out–Oscar Piastri in P19 and Lando Norris in P16.
Here is what the fans had to say about McLarens getting out early in Las Vegas during the Qualifying:
It must be mentioned that the McLarens of both Norris and Piastri had had a wing revamp before getting out on track for the Qualifying. The rear and beam wings were made more at par with what the Red Bull cars have, as claimed by Team Boss Andrea Stella. Unfortunately, the revamp seems to have backfired as the two cars will be starting from the bottom five in Las Vegas for the Main Race.
