“Engines? What are you hiding?” – Fans curious after Porsche’s Formula E page declares “something big is coming”

Porsche Formula E team's recent Instagram post

Porsche is a motorsport icon. However, the German automaker has struggled to make a mark in F1. Porsche seeks to join Formula 1 with the new engine regulations set for 2026, along with sister brand Audi. Although, things seemed grim after failed negotiations with the Red Bull Racing team. This put the German marquee on the back foot for its ambitions until recently, when there was a change on social media.

Recently, Porsche’s Formula E page on Instagram archived all its posts. The account posted a teaser clip for a major upcoming announcement. The caption said, “16.01.23 – Start your engines. Something big is coming. #WelcomeHome.” Certainly, this revelation will not be part of the all-electric series due to the mention of engines. As such, many have believed it to be an indication of Porsche’s new endeavors, possibly in F1.

Porsche has accomplished success in motorsport outside of F1

Some keen eyes have noticed the teaser clip to vaguely resemble the late F1 legend, Frank Williams. Porsche needs to partner up with a new team to join F1 after the failure with Red Bull. Recently, the rumor mill has spread information about Williams Racing being one of the ideal candidates for the German automaker. A Porsche-Williams entry would certainly spice-up things in the sport. Although, there is no confirmation about this theory so far.

Fans speculate about a possible Porsche-Williams F1 team

Many speculate this frame to depict Sir Frank Williams

Fans on Instagram were caught off-guard by this post. Some fans were intrigued by seeing the caption of the post. As one fan explained, “Something not to do with fe because of start your engines and fe have batteries.” While another user mentioned, “Engines? What are you hiding?” Thus, a signal that this post will indeed be about a non-electric racing endeavor. Most believe this to be about Formula 1. As many spotted the legend, Sir Frank Williams.

Many fans looked optimistic about the chances of Porsche partnering up with the Williams F1 team. One user stated, “I see Frank Williams in this video. PorschexWilliams.” While another fan was quick to mention this as a great opportunity as Porsche would become the third German squad in the sport. The fan said, “Porsche F1 Golden News ( Mercedes, Audi, Porsche ) “ While some fans even mentioned this to be a reason behind Williams’s new sponsorship deal with Gulf.

Certainly, the upcoming Porsche announcement will be one to look forward to. It is not every day that an automotive giant teases the fans to such an extent. Of course, seeing Porsche return to F1 with a historic team like Williams would be a treat for the entire paddock. However, it remains to be seen whether this actually materializes or has the entire F1 social media got this horribly wrong.
