Scuderia Ferrari and Charles Leclerc were not considered favorites heading into the Mexican GP. The Monegasque driver has failed to match the 2023 world champion, Max Verstappen over the course of the season as the Italian team trails behind Red Bull. However, Qualifying in Mexico City surprised the entire paddock as Leclerc clinched pole position.
The Monegasque driver was behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez during the practice sessions on the street circuit. Nevertheless, Leclerc swiftly turned things around in the Top 10 shootout. The Ferrari driver was on provisional pole in the first half of the session and managed to keep his lead by the chequered flag as well.
Charles Leclerc took pole by a gap of less than a tenth to teammate Carlos Sainz and third-placed Max Verstappen. Scuderia Ferrari locked out the front row after a while in what has been a dominant season for Red Bull. However, it remains to be seen if the 26-year-old can manage to turn the pole into a race win on Sunday.
Fans worry about Charles Leclerc’s race on Sunday
Fans on X feared the worst for Charles Leclerc. Many users believed that the 26-year-old’s efforts might be in vain if his team manages to screw up the race tomorrow. One user wrote, “Ferrari will probably find a way to ruin his race again.” While another fan was excited to see how Ferrari comes up the most innovative way to fall down the order. The fan wrote, “Excited to see Ferrari getting creative tomorrow and ending up p5+.”

Subsequently, one fan commented, “22 pole in 5 years of Red tractors.” While another user claimed that Verstappen would still emerge victorious on Sunday. The user stated, “Doesn’t matter max still gonna win.”

Certainly, Charles Leclerc has managed to exceed expectations with his pole position for the Mexican GP. However, the 26-year-old now has the uphill task to fend off Max Verstappen for the race win. The Red Bull RB-19 is believed to have the upper hand in terms of race pace. As such, it seems that Leclerc is up for a challenging race against the three-time world champion.
