Liberty Media believes the new sprint race format introduced in Baku was a hit. So much so that they want to increase the number of sprint races from next year onwards. As per the information from the Miami Paddock, talks about the 2024 sprint races have already begun. The F1 sprint weekend will most likely increase from six to ten next season.
However, Formula 1 will evaluate the overall viewership at the end of the year. The Chinese GP was canceled due to the pandemic but will return next season. Hence there will be 24 races. If F1 confirms the additional ten sprint races, the number of races will increase to 34. In this scenario, the circuits should be willing to spend more to host a weekend with two qualifying sessions and two races.
The question is which circuits will be willing to spend more. However, Motorsports.com claims local organizers who obtained the sprint format are committed to paying more than those who host the traditional format. Though the short-term economic benefits are assured, there are doubts about the long-term benefits.

Here is how the F1 fans reacted to the news of additional sprint races

Red Bull champion Max Verstappen is one among the few who criticized the new format. His team boss, Christian Horner, also backed him. But other drivers like Lando Norris, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Nico Hulkenberg were open to trying something new.
Formula 1 believes this would amp up the Grand Prix weekend and provide more entertainment for the fans. But the question is, is this what the fans want?
F1 fans were quick to react once the news of the additional sprint races reached their ears. They expressed their opinions on social media. Some of their reactions were, “I want liberty media to stfu,” “STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT,” “Literally nobody, including f1 drivers and team staff, wants this”, “Liberty media is stupid,” and so on and so forth. Take a look at other reactions below.
Formula 1 has doubled the number of sprint races in 2023. In 2021 and 2022, there were only three sprint races. As for the 2023 season, this format is scheduled for the Austrian, Belgian, Qatar, United States (COTA), and Sao Paulo Grand Prix. This excludes the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that took place last weekend. Formula 1 fans have made it clear that they do not want more sprint races. It is up to the organization to listen to them or not.
