The Miami Grand Prix was added to the F1 calendar in 2022 on a ten-year contract. There are three races in the US this season, namely the Miami International Autodrome in Miami, Florida, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and the temporary Caesars Palace Grand Prix Circuit in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first round in the U.S. for the 2023 season, the Miami Grand Prix, is scheduled for May 8th.

However, due to heavy rain, the circuit is flooded. There are questions about whether the race will go as planned because of the heavy flooding. The crew members who have started working on the track have shared images of it covered in water. This puts a stop to the ongoing preparations for the race, which is less than a month away.

Miami and the other parts of southern Florida have been facing heavy rainfall for the last three days. As per the reports, the streets are heavily flooded. The local authorities are cleaning the water, but it is difficult and remains standstill due to the city’s drainage system, which cannot handle the pressure. Hence, it spread to the Miami Circuit as well.

The heavy rain, rising sea levels, and low elevation are the cause of frequent flooding in the Miami area. The four-time world champion and former F1 driver, Sebastian Vettel, highlighted this issue last season on the track debut. He wore a t-shirt with the caption, “Miami 2060 – 1st Grand Prix Underwater – Act Now or Swim Later.” The F1 fans have not forgotten Vettel’s fight.

Some of the reactions were, “They weren’t kidding when they said real water was coming”, “Seb was right all along”, “Actual water in the Miami marina this year”, “And once again, Sebastian Vettel was right,”, “Will we use the wets finally?”, “fia works hard but mother nature Sebastian Vettel works harder,” and “Maybe if y’all start listening to Seb, then maybe we will still have a car race and not a boat race.” Take a look at others below,

Last season, several drivers had problems with the lack of grip on the newly constructed asphalt track. Two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso and 8 Grand Prix, winner Daniel Ricciardo, were among the others who called for improvement of the circuit for the next race. Now with the heavy downpours, the question is whether the flooding damaged the circuit. There is no official statement from F1 regarding this incident yet. As it stands, the Miami GP will take place May 6th-8th.
