The Miami Grand Prix qualifying session ended, and all eyes were on the Mercedes team, particularly on Lewis Hamilton. Shockingly, the seven-time world champion was knocked out in Q2, marking the second consecutive race in which a Mercedes failed to make it to Q3. The result is a cause for concern for the German outfit.
Hamilton’s elimination was due to a slight mistake he made at turn 5, which he expressed over the radio. “We left that way too late, guys!” he exclaimed, lamenting his late exit onto the track. This compromise impacted his out-lap, ultimately leading to compromised tire preparation and leaving him unable to progress to Q3.
This is the first time since Monza 2022 that Lewis Hamilton has failed to reach Q3. It’s also the lowest he has ever qualified in all his visits to the United States in his 16-year career in F1. Starting from the 13th position, Hamilton will be behind Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas, an unenviable position for the Mercedes driver. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s teammate George Russell narrowly made it into Q3, beating Williams’ Alex Albon by just 0.032 seconds.
The Twitterverse is split between blaming Lewis Hamilton’s skills and his team

The team has brought several bespoke upgrades for their car, including upgrades to the front wing, beam wing, and rear wing. With the team currently sitting in third place in the championship standings, their aim is to cause a stir in the hierarchy with these significant upgrades scheduled for the Imola race.
F1 fandom took it to Twitter to troll Lewis Hamilton’s dramatic exit. While some blamed it on the car, some blamed the skill set of the seven-time champion, with one user calling it a ‘Skill issue sadly,’ others blamed the team for sending the Briton out too late.
Despite their ambitious efforts, the team has been outclassed by their own custom team, Aston Martin, who currently holds a superior position. Adding insult to injury, Fernando Alonso secured a P2 start while the German team took a moment to catch their breath as the other Aston Martin struggled in the 18th position.
It remains to be seen what Hamilton and his team have up their sleeves for the upcoming race. With the potent combination of skill and technological advancements, the Mercedes team could shake up the current standings. All eyes are on track as we await the spectacle that is sure to unfold as Sergio Perez will start the race on the pole while the other Mercedes of George Russell starts in sixth.
