“Will Ferrari support Mission 44 like Mercedes did?” – Fans question future of Lewis Hamilton’s activism as he is set for 2025 Ferrari moves
Mercedes have heavily contributed to Lewis Hamilton's philanthropic activities as the partnership between the driver and the team had become so strong that now fans wonder what will happen to those initiatives once Hamilton is a Ferrari racer.
Lewis Hamilton
The recent news of Lewis Hamilton‘s transfer to Ferrari has taken the entire Formula 1 world by storm. The Briton has been in the sphere of the pinnacle of motorsports for 18 years now, and he has only changed teams once before. After spending about 6 years with the legendary squad of McLaren with whom Hamilton got his first World Championship title, he switched to Mercedes in 2014.
Thanks to the turbo hybrid era introduced from 2014 onwards, Lewis and Mercedes struck a partnership that went on to yield six World Drivers’ Championship titles as well as eight back-to-back World Constructors’ Championship titles for the Silver Arrows. But in the last two years, as soon as F1 introduced some new rules, the dominance that Hamilton and his team had established, fell apart, leading to a series of disappointing outings without a single Grand Prix victory for the Briton.
But Mercedes have always been supportive of Lewis Hamilton in every initiative he took even outside the racetracks. The #44 racer had started the Accelerate 25 programme to promote diversity and inclusion in motorsports alongwith Hamilton, and they were also supportive of his own project–the Mission 44 initiative. Now that Lewis Hamilton is going to Ferrari, his ties with Mercedes will be undone and fans wonder what might happen to all the initiatives they took together.
Fans believe Lewis Hamilton had only agreed to a deal with Ferrari once they promised to support his activism
Ferrari are one of the oldest teams in Formula 1, and they have been known for their European elitist nature within the team. Their fanbase, popularly called the Tifosi, mostly consists of the White Italians. But Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, wishes to see the Blacks and the people of color progress in all fields including STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Fans believe Ferrari would find it difficult to adjust to Hamilton’s loud activism.
Here is what they have said about Ferrari agreeing to Lewis Hamilton’s wishes about the future of his philanthropy projects:
In other news, Lewis Hamilton himself responded to the reports about him moving to Ferrari only after Mercedes released an official statement confirming the switch. The 39-year-old seemed optimistic as he shared the news about his ‘new chapter in life’ but he also claimed that deciding to leave Mercedes had been hard on him.
