The Italian GP start was delayed after Yuki Tsunoda retired on the formation lap. Drivers did an additional formation lap before parking their cars on the grid once again. The grid had to wait till race control could allow for the race to begin. During this waiting period, it seems that Fernando Alonso decided to get some sleep in preparation for the Grand Prix.

The Spanish driver was spotted taking a nap inside the cockpit of the Aston Martin AMR23. Fernando Alonso seemed to sleeping peacefully as he waited for the race to begin. Despite being asleep, the 43-year-old was decked in his racing gear along with his crash helmet. The two-time world champion was ready to get back into racing mode straightaway.

Certainly, this was an interesting sight for viewers. Although, many would not have expected to see a sleeping Fernando Alonso after Yuki Tsunoda‘s early retirement. Nevertheless, The Spanish driver remained focused on the race start as he tried to make some places on Lap 1. Perhaps the pre-race start nap helped energize the 43-year-old.

Fans on Twitter were quick to share their views. One user made a reference to Alonso’s iconic deckchair moment during his time at McLaren Honda. The user asked Aston Martin to provide the 43-year-old with a deckchair. The user said, “Get him his deckchair.” Another fan made a pun on the additional formation laps and Fernando Alonso’s nap. The fan wrote, “Formation Nap.”

One fan related to the two-time world champion as they awaited for the Italian GP to begin. The fan replied, “Also me waiting for the start:)” Another user mentioned that even a fierce lion such as Fernando Alonso needs to rest sometimes. The user commented, “The eye of the tiger also needs to rest sometimes.” While another fan urged someone to wake up Alonso from his power nap. The fan stated, “Someone wake Fernando Alonso up.”

Thus, Fernando Alonso decided to relax a bit before the Italian GP began. The race start was initially aborted after Yuki Tsunoda retired his AlphaTauri. Alonso got some sleep in the cockpit of his Aston Martin. Fans loved to see this peculiar sight of the two-time world champion. Although, the 43-year-old got back into full swing once the race went underway.
