With less than a hundred points to their name on the World Constructors’ Championship table, Mercedes are not having the best of their times five races into the new season. With last year’s wounds still raw and fresh, the Silver Arrows had promised their fans to develop a better car this time, with enough competence to attempt to beat Red Bull for the F1 2023 title. But as of now, the golden trophy seems to be a far cry for the Stuttgart-based outfit, as they are lagging behind their own customer team Aston Martin, with only one podium win till date.
In 2021, after the first five races, Mercedes stood at 148 points with a second place in the World Championship, just one point away from Red Bull. That was the last season where the German manufacturers managed to get their hands on the World Championship. Fast forward to 2023, five races have already happened, but Mercedes have amassed a total of 96 points. Till now, they have not had a single Grand Prix win this year and Lewis Hamilton brought their only podium finish till date with his masterful drive at the Australian GP.
Naturally, Mercedes have already gotten backlash over the lack of pace of their W14, and some fans have even urged Lewis Hamilton to leave the team and go for Ferrari in order to win his eighth Championship title. But now, it seems like the Brackley outfit has some new upgrades up their sleeves that might finally salvage their current Championship situation. In their latest Twitter post, the admins teased about the unveiling of those upgrades, and fans have given their reactions to the news.

Mercedes have been cooking up some good upgrades in their Brackley factory so that their 2023 campaign can be salvaged. Five races into the season, things do not look to be up for the Silver Arrows, but their new upgrades might finally unlock the power in their W14 so that they can give Red Bull and Aston Martin a run for their money. According to some blown-up shots of the new Mercedes racecar for the Monaco weekend, the Silver Arrows’ sidepods will be back in business at the Principality. This has given hopes to the fans since they believe the sidepods can help increase the straight-line speed of the W14.
