“One way of saving Ferrari from embarrassment,” Fans react to reports claiming the Imola GP might be cancelled due to bad weather

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, popularly called as the Imola GP, is more of a festival for the countless Tifosis rather than a simple race. The massive showdown between the 20 F1 racers in Ferrari’s backyard attracts fans from far and wide to watch the event Italy–but this time, the weather might literally rain on the Tifosis’ parade as there is a chance of heavy rain with the risk of floods, landslides and overflowing rivers in the entire region of Emilia Romagna.

Many reports have already been released on the weather conditions in Imola ahead of the race weekend, and they do not look promising. The Civil Defense has already declared a “Red Weather” emergency for May 16-17, and the conditions are expected to stay the same through Saturday as well as Sunday. While F1 cars do have provisions to race in the rain on wet Pirelli tires, severe conditions might result in cancellation of the Imola Grand Prix, as predicted by some experts.

Now, the fans on Twitter are absolutely woebegone at the news that the Imola GP might be a no-go. The overwhelming number of street races in this year’s F1 calendar has already resulted in fans complaining against the authorities as those races do not allow for any overtake, but the Imola GP always makes for some interesting results as it is a high-speed track. But now that the race might be cancelled altogether, fans took to Twitter to express their opinions.

In 2021, the Belgian Grand Prix held at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit saw one of the most boring races in F1 history. It had rained so heavily that the cars could hardly go out on the tracks before making way for the pits again as the red flag was implemented. After three hours of delays and suspended starts, the race did start but it was behind the safety car, thus allowing no overtakes. Finally, two laps could be completed in the terrible weather and half points were awarded to the racers. Max Verstappen had taken away the lead in the race while George Russell in his Williams came second and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton came third.

In other news, the Imola GP is supposed to see several new upgrades from most of the teams, including Ferrari and Mercedes. Fans have their eyes pealed for watching the race as they are curious whether the new modifications would bring any change in the two teams’ performance so that they can climb up the points table.
