The 2024 Formula 1 season is under progression with the conclusion of the Bahrain GP. Red Bull once again created a dominant challenger with Max Verstappen taking a stellar win. Ferrari saw a decent ending to the race with a P3 and P4 finish for Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc respectively. However, Sainz was surprised to see the lack of enthusiasm from the crew at Maranello over his podium finish in the race.
The crew was absent at Parc Ferme when Sainz got down from his car to celebrate his podium finish. The Spaniard was met with a severe lack of enthusiasm from the crew and hence this struck a reaction from the fans as well. However, following flak over this act from the crew, Ferrari posted a video on their social media, showcasing Carlos Sainz hugging and shaking hands with the crew. The team will replace the Spanish driver in 2025 with Lewis Hamilton as the Briton joins Maranello. Hence this incident further rubbed salt in the wounds of the 29-year-old.
The video depicted the driver hugging and shaking hands with the Ferrari crew at Parc Ferme and inside the pit garage. However, the lack of enthusiasm was visible on the faces of the people who shook hands of the 29-year-old. Despite the absence from the crew, Sainz’s father Carlos Sainz Sr. was present at Parc Ferme to celebrate his podium finish at the season opener in Bahrain.

Fans unhappy with Ferrari’s PR attempt with Carlos Sainz’s video
In a recent tweet on X, multiple fans showcased their dissatisfaction over Ferrari’s loose attempt at saving face. One fan mentioned that the team picked the “wrong driver to stay” and that Sainz deserved a seat. Additionally, another fan added that the entire video seemed “staged” due to a lack of enthusiasm in the video as well.
Some fans added that Sainz deserved much better than what Ferrari offered him in the team. Meanwhile, others questioned the Maranello crew for the reasons behind the absence on the scene. Another fan added that the celebration was the ‘coldest celebration’ that they had ever seen. Hence, it is safe to assume that the crew noticed the fan’s resentment of the lack of celebration for the driver’s first podium in the 2024 season.

Any F1 team must treat their drivers fairly regardless of their tenure left with the team. Carlos Sainz has been performing at his A-game throughout the sessions. Time will tell about how the Spaniard fares against the Monegasqeu at Ferrari. The team has a lot to work on, following Leclerc’s braking issues at the Bahrain GP. Hence, the team needs to bounce back at the Saudi Arabian GP and challenge the Red Bulls in front.
