The two drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez, are in a fierce battle with each other for the runner-up spot in the F1 world championship standings. Perez is clinging onto a mere 39-point lead over the British driver. The lead has widened due to errors from Hamilton and Mercedes, such as disqualification from the US GP due to underbody plank wear. But despite his disappointing performance, the seven-time champion has taken a dig at Red Bull’s current controversies.
The Briton talked about the backlash that Perez faced due to his woeful performance in the late-season. Lewis Hamilton added how Red Bull is not massively supportive of him. Additionally, the 38-year-old pointed towards a specific person in the team who has been very vocal about the Mexican’s results this year.
I don’t think his team have been massively supportive. I wouldn’t say ‘the team’, because there’s a lot of members in a team. But there has been one particular spokesperson that has not been really great in helping psychologically.
Hamilton told Fox Sports Mexico.
The seven-time world champion hinted at the comments about Sergio Perez following his recent performance slump. The ex-champion later empathized with Checo and added that if Toto Wolff [Mercedes boss] were to talk so negatively about Hamilton, they would have a problem.
If I heard Toto talking negatively about me on the weekends, it would be very tough.

Fans on X criticized Lewis Hamilton over his Sergio Perez comments
The comments that Lewis Hamilton had passed agitated multiple fans. One fan criticized Hamilton and added that Hamilton should focus on his car and not talk about other teams while his team is underperforming this season. They commented in lieu of the lack of race wins the seven-time champion has gathered in the past two years.
Another fan recalled the comments that Lewis Hamilton had made before, stating ‘You know your car is fast when even Perez is behind you’. The fan claimed that it was very bold of the Briton to talk like such. Another fan talked about technicality and said that even Toto would talk about Hamilton if he performed like Perez.
He wants to be in the best team but when he doesn’t perform, he can’t be called out on it? That’s not how it works at that level.

Lewis-I-do-my-talking-on-track sure has an awful lot to say off track doesn’t he?

Never ends, childish antics and his fanbase can’t for one second understand why he is so unlikeable.
Close your mouth and race. That’s all we want from you.
Concentrate on our car lewis?

My first thought… why does he express himself about another team he hardly knows?
— wicher_F1 (@WicherSporting) October 27, 2023
Why? What is in it for him?
Toto did the same to Valtteri and Lewis said nothing.

Lewis if you had the best car on the grid and set times like Checo; Toto would be talking about you.

Sigh

Of course he choose now to say this at the Mexican GP when Verstappen has already had to be given bodyguards. This criticism of Perez is not new but he chose to wait for the Mexican GP to whip up hostility

Helmut Marko is honest and thats why so many redbull drivers are on the grid right now. He turns boys into men.

Sergio Perez might be seen as underperforming in the late-season. Still, the Mexican driver has shown great improvements over the past few weeks, and, ahead of his home race, Perez hopes to score better results. Lewis Hamilton’s performance has been challenging Perez for the runner-up spot in the championship. It will be exciting to see which racer emerges victorious in the remaining four races this season.
