“I’m sure Darth Vader and Hitler are in the back”- Fans throw shade on $180 billion man Elon Musk as he joins Max Verstappen in Red Bull garage at Miami GP
Elon Musk, the second richest man in the world, visited the Red Bull garage and Max Verstappen at the Miami GP. But many were not particularly happy with this.

Celebrities have always flocked to Formula 1. This has especially been the case for the ‘big’ Grands Prix, like Silverstone or Monaco, or now as we’re finding out, those held in the USA. You can expect quite a bit of them to turn up in Las Vegas, as it looks to be an event in the same vein as Monaco – more about the regalia surrounding the race. But there are many notable figures at the Miami GP as well – Elon Musk, who’s visited the Red Bull garage and Max Verstappen, is chief among them.
The South African billionaire, who is worth $180 billion according to Forbes, acquired Twitter last year. By his own admission, he was in Miami to discuss ‘Aero & Battery technology’. Under an ESPN tweet containing a photo of him and Christian Horner, Musk wrote: “Fun discussion of aero & battery technology in F1. I proposed a pure EV vs gas/hybrid F1 race.”
Baby X, or X Æ A-XII, Musk’s son with Canadian musician Grimes, was also there in attendance with his father. ‘Baby X’ recently turn three, on May 4. The father-son duo also posed for a photo with Horner, Verstappen, as well as Sergio Perez. And curiously, he’s not the only billionaire who’s visited the Miami GP on Saturday! Jeff Bezos, as well as his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, were/are there as well. Bezos even sat on the McLaren pitwall. He does have a degree in electrical engineering!
But most fans didn’t seem too pleased with Musk’s appearance – and he is receiving quite a bit of heat on Twitter, which as mentioned above, is owned by him. It continues the pipeline of Red Bull getting quite a bit of hate as well. Combined two, rather unpopular figures (or brands) together, and it means you’ve got the perfect recipe. For online attacks.
Elon Musk’s visit to Red Bull and Max Verstappen wasn’t particularly well-received
Elon Musk has always been a divisive figure. But particularly since his acquisition of Twitter, he’s become ‘Public Enemy No. 1’ in many circles. There are a variety of reasons for this, including his own tweets, his handling of the whole affair, as well his political stances. Some just don’t like what he’s done with the social networking service. All in all, there are many reasons why Musk is rather unpopular nowadays.
The reaction to his appearance in the Red Bull garage reflected this fact. Red Bull themselves, partly due to their domination of Formula 1, have also become ‘Public Enemy No. 1’. There’s also the events at Abu Dhabi 2021, where Lewis Hamilton lost the championship to Max Verstappen is controversial circumstances. So, when it came through that Musk visited the Red Bull garage…a lot of fans reacted as you would expect.
Well, though the reaction to Musk’s visit seems to have gone against Red Bull, on the whole, they’ve looked strong this weekend. That is, as they’ve looked strong every weekend in 2023. Once again, no team is able to match their race pace, and it seems another Red Bull 1-2, or simple domination, is in store for the race on Sunday. The qualifying, though, perhaps with heroics from someone like Charles Leclerc, could hold some surprises.
