Lewis Hamilton‘s sudden switch to Ferrari in 2025 has caught the entire paddock off-guard, including the team principal Toto Wolff, and race engineer Peter ‘Bono’ Bonnington. However, since Hamilton was very comfortable working with Bono, the Briton has to discuss his situation at Mercedes moving ahead.

Bono needs to switch teams and join Ferrari, shifting to Italy for better alignment with the Italian constructor. However, this change would be too big for the 48-year-old. Hamilton has finalized his deal with Ferrari and will surely change teams in 2025. All’s that left for Bono is to discuss his role within Mercedes and finally seal his move to Ferrari as well to work alongside the seven-time world champion.

The transition for moving to Ferrari will be very difficult for the race engineer, keeping in mind the big cultural shift for the Briton. Additionally, Bono would also have to learn Italian to work well within Maranello and converse well in the country. Hence, both the teams have one season to convince the 48-year-old to stay in either of the teams, before the commencement of the 2025 season.

Fans beg Bono to move to Italy to work alongside Lewis Hamilton

In a recent tweet on X, multiple fans shared their opinion about the status quo. A majority, if not all the fans want the engineer to shift to Italy to work alongside the seven-time world champion. One fan added the hypnotizing gif and captioned ‘Bono you wanna leave so bad’, funnily hypnotizing the engineer to shift to Italy. Another fan added that Bono needs to shift 100% and pleaded with the 48-year-old.

Another fan commented that Bono needs to download ‘Duolingo’ and start learning Italian as soon as possible. Others recalled the Hammertime radio call and added that ‘Hammertime needs Bono to be complete’, indicating the great bond that both of them share on the grid. Others claimed that they ‘needed’ Bono and there was no two ways about it.

Therefore, considering the majority of fans’ pleas, a switch from Bono to Ferrari and Italy would not be far-fetched. However, the 2024 season will be soon underway with Hamilton racing for Mercedes, concluding his ultimate season. The Briton wants to end the season on a ‘high’ with his long-time team.
