Felipe Drugovich is currently working as a test driver at Aston Martin. Drugovich is also a former F2 World Champion and hopes to appear in Formula 1 in the next few years. The 23- 23-year-old recently appeared on a podcast where he was asked to name his choice for the better driver between the two World Champions on the grid currently Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The young driver answered the question and has since faced a massive backlash. Drugovich claimed Max Verstappen to be his choice for the better driver of the two and further elaborated his reasons for the aforementioned choice.
(Max)Verstappen may seem like an annoying guy, but he's an honest guy and not fake at all. That is what it is and that’s it.
Lewis Hamilton is adored by F1 fans every single time the Championship visits Brazil and even the seven-time World Champion doesn’t miss a chance of complementing the country. This happens to such an extent, that the Brazilian Grand Prix is often termed as Hamilton’s second home Grand Prix. Drugovich commented on Hamilton’s outpour of love for Brazil and pointed out that it does not seem genuine to him. Hamilton was also brought into the conversation by Drugovich.
That’s exactly what doesn’t convince me. I have nothing against him. Only now I have had more contact with Verstappen. He is a super nice guy, he is a really good guy, very attentive, [and] accessible.
The Former F2 Champion was heavily criticized for this remark about Hamilton. Several fans claim that Drugovich is simply too young and ‘out of his depth’ to speak of the seven-time World Champion in such a manner while others claim that Drugovich’s remarks stemmed from jealousy against Hamilton for the love he receives in Brazil.
Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez’s Battle for P2 is in the favour of the Mexican driver after the Brazilian Grand Prix
In the ongoing duel for the P2 spot in the Driver’s standings, Lewis Hamilton finds himself in a heated contest against Red Bull’s Sergio Perez. Following the Sprint race at the Brazilian Grand Prix where Perez secured 6 points to Hamilton’s 2, the gap stood at a mere 24 points heading into the Grand Prix. Hamilton, starting from P5, aimed to beat and claim some important points against Perez, who started from P9.
Despite recent races favoring the Briton’s pace over the Red Bull driver, Perez showcased a stunning performance in the Brazilian Grand Prix, finishing at P4 compared to Hamilton’s P8. This widened Perez’s lead over Hamilton to a 32-point advantage, underlining the challenge Hamilton faced in bridging the points difference. The Sprint Race emphasized the stark speed contrast between the Red Bull and Mercedes, foreshadowing Hamilton’s failure in beating Perez during the Grand Prix.
Hamilton’s recent comment highlights how his focus has recently shifted towards securing a P2 finish for Mercedes in the Constructor’s Championship. The Mercedes driver admitted to prioritizing the team’s standing over his individual battle with Perez for the “bridesmaid” position in the driver’s standings. It will be interesting to see whether Perez can hold on to the P2 spot as the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend approaches.
