Fernando Alonso is a household name in Formula 1. The Spaniard has been around the F1 grid since 2001 when Alonso made his debut with Minardi. The 41-year-old reached the peak of his glory in 2006, after winning two back-to-back titles with Renault. Today, despite being the eldest driver in the paddock, Fernando has shown no signs of ageing, performing at his level best at every single race. Thus Alonso is one of the most popular drivers in the sport, having connections with other famous personnel.

One such connection was witnessed on Twitter recently when a US basketball team Memphis Grizzlies uploaded a video of the American sensation Santi Alabama donning a T-shirt with Fernando Alonso’s signature pose after winning the Formula 1 championship. The caption of this short clip stated, “el plan appreciation fit,” a nod to the Spanish driver, signalling what seemed to be friendly relations between Aldama and Alonso.

The Spaniard reciprocated this by retweeting the video and stating, “EL PLAN,” a symbol of respect for Santi for wearing Fernando Alonso merchandise. Of course, any instance like this between two sportspersons from different worlds is a delight for the fans, maybe even considering it a cross-over episode. We are glad to witness such a bonding between the soon-to-be Aston Martin driver and one of the finest talents in American basketball.

Fernando Alonso set to have a competitive year with Aston Martin in 2023

Fernando is optimistic of his chances with Aston Martin

After a 2022 season riddled with reliability issues at Alpine, Fernando has set his sights on being at the top of the midfield pack with his new team, Aston Martin. The Silverstone-based team is hopeful of its prospects next season after hiring Alonso to partner with Lance Stroll. The 41-year-old still has his hunger to win in the sport after a streak of several years in poor machinery.

Alonso’s teammate at Alpine, Esteban Ocon stated the Spaniard’s ability to give 300% at every single race even at this stage of his career and it is truly accurate.

Thus, 2023 will be a crucial year for the 41-year-old who will join Aston Martin’s 5-year plan for fighting for the world championship. Fernando Alonso has been extremely keen on getting up to speed with the British team, putting considerable effort during the post-season Abu Dhabi test to get familiar with the functioning of his new team. Alonso has proven to the critics that age is just a number and that with the right amount of passion to win, the Spanish driver is no slouch to be messed with on the grid.
