Fernando Alonso, the former 2-time F1 World Champion, has bashed the organizers of the Canadian GP for the CCTV problem that cost the F1 teams to lose out on most of the FP1 sessions. He feels there should have been a backup plan in place for such a circumstance and is sorry for the fans who came in numbers to catch the high-speed F1 action.

Fernando Alonso has always been straightforward with the media, and while discussing the shenanigans of the FP1 session, he told racingnews365, “It was a shame. I think it was not ideal for the teams, but mostly it was for the fans who came very early to the circuit and we were not able to run in FP1.

The 41-year-old has left no stone unturned in going after the organizers of the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. He said, “From time to time it seems that we are shooting our feet as a sport. So these things are a little bit embarrassing. We didn’t have time because the cameras on the circuit didn’t work, and we didn’t have a Plan B.

His frustration has further stemmed from the fact that Aston Martin has brought a plethora of upgrades to the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit, and because of the time lost in FP1, Alonso and Co. were not able to test everything, despite an additional 30 minutes being getting added to the FP2 session.

Fernando Alonso is eyeing at least a podium in Canada

Fernando Alonso had a weekend to forget at the Spanish Grand Prix, where he was not seen mixing it up with the top three runners. Keeping this in view, the Spaniard has previously claimed that he will eye a podium in all the season’s remaining races. As things stand, he is currently third in the Drivers Championship with 99 points.

However, an in-form Lewis Hamilton is breathing down his neck. If Alonso goes through another average outing, there is every chance he would be overtaken by the former 7-time World Champion. Mercedes looked incredibly strong during the FP2 session, and it will not be easy for the Silverstone-based team to outperform them.

With qualifying for the Canadian GP just around the corner, the FP3 session will be immensely crucial from Fernando Alonso’s perspective. Aston Martin would have to nail the AMR23 setup for qualifying; otherwise, the prolific Spaniard could see himself on the back foot going into Sunday’s race.
