Fernando Alonso, the two-time F1 World Champion, has recently addressed the rumors that are saying that Aston Martin has got a very similar car to Red Bull this year. Moreover, he has blatantly made it known that he does not care about what people have been saying about his team. His only focus is on the task at hand this year.
After the end of the Bahrain GP, certain people from the Red Bull camp made jokes about having three cars on the podium. The comments came in light of the AMR23 being very similar to the Milton-Keynes-based team’s car. All that has sparked an incessant debate within the F1 paddock and it has now started to get on Fernando Alonso’s nerves.
While talking about it in Jeddah, he added, “I don’t care about the comments, I just focus on my team and to improve. You can clearly see that there are differences between the two cars. Visually they are different and an example of this is that Mercedes says that 50 percent of their car is like ours [engine, gearbox, and suspensions] and Red Bull says that 50 percent of their car is like ours.”
In order to prove his point, the Spaniard has talked about Mercedes and Red Bull, saying that their cars look 50 percent similar to the AMR23, considering the peculiarity of the concept of both cars. He has also brought the Ferrari-powered cars into the conversation and indicated the similarity between Haas, Alfa Romeo, and, Ferrari.
He added, “And, you won’t find two more different concepts than those two, that clearly indicates that neither theory is true. We have a different concept for those two cars, although it’s true that visually all the cars look a little bit similar. If you take the black cars, the Ferrari, the Haas, and the Alfa Romeo also look very similar to each other.“

While Fernando Alonso, with his comments, has tried to stop the Aston Martin-Red Bull debate, he feels that Alpine A523 is the most similar looking to Aston Martin’s AMR23. While talking about it, he said, “I would say that the car most similar to ours, to tell you the truth, is the Alpine.”
The 41-year-old feels that all the fuss around Aston Martin this year is because of the team’s performance in Bahrain. Both Alonso and Stroll managed to land their cars in the Top 10. Moreover, the former could even score a podium finish by ending up in P3. According to the Spaniard, this is the only reason why Aston Martin has been the talk of the town this year.
“All the teams struggle with the budget limit, trying to improve here and there. When they see someone else improving two seconds or one second, you have to look where it is possible [to improve so much].” Looking at Alonso’s comments, it can be said that he is not happy with the situation that he and his team have found themselves in this year.
However, while there is a lot of outside noise, Fernando Alonso has hit the ground running this year. A lot is expected from the Spaniard in Jeddah and considering his outing in Bahrain, it would not come as a huge surprise if he manages to score another podium at the end of the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
