Max Verstappen has been on a war path at the pinnacle of motor racing, bashing his competition left and right. So far in the 2023 F1 season, he has won 11 races of the 13 that have taken place, and amidst his dominant run, Fernando Alonso has claimed that Verstappen’s success is sometimes underestimated.
The Red Bull Formula 1 team has the best car on this year’s grid. The car has performed in a league, but Max Verstappen has also played a huge role in pushing it to the absolute limit at almost every Grand Prix. Sergio Perez, on the other hand, hasn’t been able to put the RB19 through the wringer like his teammate.
With Verstappen’s most recent success at the 2023 Dutch GP, Fernando Alonso said, as reported by F1 Fansite.com, “It is underestimated sometimes what Max is achieving. So you always feel that there is room to improve and you are not 100% happy with yourself, as I am today. And I think Max is achieving that 100% more often than us at the moment – than any of the drivers – so that’s why he’s dominating.”
The 42-year-old, with his comments, has shed light on one key aspect that, according to him, has got Max Verstappen performing in a league of his own this year. Moreover, he desires to be on the same level as the 25-year-old to achieve his goals at the pinnacle of motor racing.
Fernando Alonso secured a P2 finish at the Dutch GP
While Fernando Alonso has left no stone unturned in applauding Max Verstappen for the brilliant job he has done this year, he himself did an amazing job during yesterday’s Dutch GP. Verstappen secured the top spot but was brilliantly pushed by Alonso for the win, where he ultimately ended up in P2.
The Spaniard, being in his early 40’s, is showing no signs of stopping and the kind of performance he put in during the chaotic Dutch GP is a testament to the fact that he still has it. Despite being the oldest driver on the current grid, he still can push a Formula 1 car to its absolute limit.
With the Dutch GP done and dusted, next up on the 2023 F1 calendar is the upcoming race at the famous Autodromo Nazionale Monza F1 circuit. Aston Martin proved very strong in tricky conditions at Zandvoort, and considering this, its performance output in Monza will be a fascinating watch.
