Fernando Alonso joined Aston Martin in 2023 after ditching Alpine. The two-time world champion believed Lawrence Stroll‘s plan to make the Silverstone-based team a top team in Formula 1. The Spanish driver has achieved multiple podiums this season. Now, Alonso has revealed that he is ready to stand at the top step of the podium this year.

The 43-year-old mentioned that Aston Martin might soon win a race in Formula 1. Alonso reckoned that the Silverstone-based team had made progress after the summer break. He finished second behind Max Verstappen at the Dutch GP. Although, the Spaniard admitted it would be difficult to beat Max Verstappen and Red Bull. He said, as reported by Motorsports.com, “We will win one race soon… I felt that in Zandvoort… we were close to the win. We are fighting against an outstanding Max and Red Bull, unbreakable.”

Fernando Alonso was convinced he could emerge victorious if such a situation happened again for the rest of the season. However, the two-time world champion admitted that such a result would require him to take more risks. The 43-year-old explained, “In the remaining races hopefully we can be in that position to fight again and have a chance to be side-by-side I guess with Max, and at that point maybe take some extra risk.”

Drivers communicate with their engineers and the team through team radio during a session. Often, such messages are telecasted during live coverage to give fans a glimpse of the discussions in the pit wall. Fernando Alonso opened up about wanting to keep his conversations private as he forgets the whole world can hear his comments toward his engineer.

The Spanish driver stated, “Every time I open the radio, I think that I talk with my engineer. And I keep forgetting that I talk to everyone in the world, and I would like that those comments are private.” The two-time world champion had made a reputation for controversial messages on the radio during his time at McLaren Honda. Alonso had labeled the Honda Power unit as a ‘GP2 engine’ at the 2016 Japanese GP.

Thus, Fernando Alonso has made it clear that he intends to win a race with Aston Martin by the end of this season. The Silverstone-based team has worked extensively to make progress after the summer break. This could allow the Spanish driver to challenge Max Verstappen for a victory in the remainder of the 2023 season.
