Fernando Alonso, the former 2-time world champion, has been competing at the pinnacle of racing since 2001. He is truly the heart and soul of the sport and despite him being over forty years old, he still has the willingness and the passion to keep competing and sparkling his magic.

Fernando Alonso had a mega 2023 campaign where he was often seen racing at the front end of the grid and becoming a nuisance for the lights of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. With the sport currently at a halt, he has taken the time to talk about what motivates him to keep competing despite having given over two decades of his life to F1.

while shedding light on it in detail, he recently told Aston Martin;

I think without that break, it would be difficult to keep up the motivation and the training and everything else. I'm a very competitive person. I like to set goals and targets. Ultimately, I want to win, we all do, but even when that seems unlikely, I set personal challenges: maybe finishing in the top five is possible, maybe a podium. That provides plenty of motivation.

Looking at the reaction of the prolific Spaniard, it is quite clear that the short/long breaks in F1 help him immensely in keeping his body in shape. Moreover, has made it known that setting targets also helps him have a clear vision and keep his motivation up during an F1 campaign.

Fernando Alonso wants to add a third F1 world title

While Fernando Alonso has shed light on what keeps him going at the pinnacle of motor racing, since returning to the sport, one of his main goals is to have a serious go at the coveted F1 world championship at least one more time. Alonso desperately wants to add a third title before he decides to bring the curtain down on his career.

Moreover, keeping in view how he performed during this year’s campaign, there are very good chances that if Aston Martin can produce a championship-worthy car next year, he would most probably be seen having a real tussle with Max Verstappen and Co. for the coveted F1 title.

Fernando Alonso at 34 years old, is one of the best drivers on the current F1 grid. He has all the skills in his arsenal to mount up a mighty challenge and considering this, the onus is going to be on Mike Krack and his crew to present Alonso with a potent car for the 2024 F1 season.
