“Having a family is the biggest dream of my life,” Fernando Alonso speaks on goals outside of F1 amidst romance rumors with Taylor Swift

With an admirable consistency that is backed by four podium finishes in the first five races of this season, Fernando Alonso is the biggest surprise of F1 2023. The Asturian has proven to everyone that he still has it in him to aim for the top spot on the grid even though he is twice the age of some of the current F1 racers. In a sport where most drivers, like the legendary four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, retire by the time they reach their mid-30s, Alonso shows no signs of stopping before he can get that elusive 33rd Grand Prix victory after 10 years since his resounding win at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso’s career in Formula 1 has seen many ups and downs. While he has managed to grab two F1 World titles in 2005 and 2006, he had to leave the grid in 2018 because he could not find a seat at any of the teams. Then, he came back in full form as an Alpine recruit in 2020, and shifted to Aston Martin at the beginning of the current season to take up Sebastian Vettel’s spot. Many critics had dragged him for changing teams in F1 at 41, but he showed he had made the correct decision by surpassing his heavyweight rivals like Lewis Hamilton to get four podium finishes till now.

But time is not going to stop for Alonso, and he knows it. The man from Oviedo, who is turning 42 on July 29, spoke to New York Times about his dreams outside of F1. He said, “I am aware of my age. I know that I am not going to be here [F1] for the next ten years or so.” Speaking on the life he visualises once he has to bow out of the pinnacle of motorsports, he said, “I want to have a family. That is the biggest dream of my life.

Only a month ago, F1 Twitter was filled with fans discussing the rumors that Fernando Alonso is dating the Grammy Award-winning pop sensation Taylor Swift. It had all started with the celebrity gossip channel Deuxmoi claiming that some Spanish tabloids have reported on Alonso and Swift being spotted together, and this sent all the F1 as well as the pop culture fans into a frenzy. While Fernando never explicitly confirmed this news, he did say that he wants to start a family once he is out of F1.

Speaking on what has held him back from having the dream family life, Fernando Alonso said, “I have not yet succeeded with it [having his own family] because of my way of life. That is something in which, when I stop running [as in, F1], I will find happiness.” Indeed, the life of a Formula 1 racer takes him from one continent to another overnight for the Grands Prix which are held for the better part of the year. Alonso had been married once, to Spanish singer Raquel del Rosario, but perhaps the marriage fell apart because of Nando’s busy lifestyle.

While Fernando Alonso has spoken about his aspirations off the racetrack, he claimed his only goal as a current F1 driver is to get his 33rd race win. The Aston Martin man has displayed enviable speed against his challengers like the two Mercedes and the two Ferrari’s, but winning a Grand Prix requires him to take on the current Championship leader Max Verstappen. Now, it remains to be seen whether Fernando Alonso can accomplish this difficult task in any of the remaining 17 Grands Prix of this season.
