The Asturian Fernando Alonso scored 206 points in this season and hence finished P4 in the driver’s standings. Alonso left the Alpine team before the start of the 2023 season. The two-time champion had a successful stint in 2023 with Silverstone-based Aston Martin. Amidst his performance, the 42-year-old highlighted the difference in mindset between the two teams.

The veteran was not hesitant in criticizing the French team over the difference in mindset. Alonso claimed that Aston Martin was more focused on winning and racing in Formula 1 compared to Team Enstone. However, Fernando Alonso clarified this did not mean that the British carmaker did not want to sell the cars on the road, the sale of cars would be an add-on for the F1 team.

Yeah, it’s probably different than Alpine for sure, I think this team is focused on winning and on racing for the next few years. This doesn’t mean that we don’t want to sell cars, and that will help the whole project.
Alonso said, as reported by planetf1.com.

Regardless, the priority for the Silverstone team as well as Nando was to win the races in Formula 1. According to Alonso, the rest of the things would unfold naturally if the priority was to win in the sport.

But yeah, first priority is to win in Formula 1 and then the rest of the things will just unfold naturally.

Fernando Alonso deemed the move to Aston Martin a good fit

The Veteran switched teams after the conclusion of the 2022 season. Fernando Alonso did not necessarily perform too well at the French team as he scored just 81 points and was placed P9 in the drivers standing. However, in comparison to the 2022 season, Alonso scored an impressive 206 points and finished P4 in the drivers’ standing.

When the Asturian was quizzed on his thoughts about the team switch, Alonso replied with certainty and claimed that the move to Aston Martin was a ‘good fit’. Additionally, he applauded the motivation throughout the team and insisted that the team was ready to embrace the next chapter in the project as the team prepares for a win.

Fernando Alonso is also pushing forward in the season to potentially achieve his 33rd victory in Formula 1. Although the team might not look ready for championship contention, Alonso has proved his mettle in the team and aims at potentially achieving similar if not better results in the following season after the winter break.
