Fernando Alonso raced for Scuderia Ferrari from 2010 to 2014. Over the course of five seasons, the Spanish driver tried to win the world title with the Italian team. Unfortunately, the 41-year-old failed to match the unstoppable force of Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull. Alonso soon ended his run with Maranello. Fernando has now slammed his former team for its recent struggles.
The two-time world champion recalled his tenure with Ferrari. The 41-year-old reminded fans that the Italian team used to be fighting for race wins every season during that period. Moreover, Alonso cheekily focused on the new flaws and struggles at Maranello by comparing it to his time. He said, “We never made mistakes and fought for the World Cup until the last race on two occasions.”
Although the Spanish driver was far from sympathetic towards his former team, Alonso was glad to see Ferrari’s struggles as this directly benefitted the 41-year-old’s current team, Aston Martin. The two-time world champion once again highlighted that Maranello now lacks the consistency it had a decade ago. He stated, “There is more inconsistency in Maranello than now than in the seasons in which I was there.”

Ferrari is miles behind Fernando Alonso’s new team

Alonso joined Aston Martin for the 2023 F1 season. The 41-year-old has achieved some impressive results with his new team. The Spanish driver has got four podium finishes in the first five races of the season. Team Silverstone has developed its way ahead of the Scuderia and even Mercedes, WIth Fernando Alonso becoming the only driver with an outside chance of winning a race apart from the dominant Red Bulls.
Ferrari, on the other hand, has gone off to a dismal start to the season. The team has identified issues with the SF23 that will be addressed with major updates over the course of the season. The Italian team has only achieved a single podium finish with Charles Leclerc in Baku this season. Maranello will have big changes in its structure as the team tries to return to winning ways.
Thus, Fernando Alonso has not been shy of calling out Ferrari for its mistakes. The Italian team has suffered some poor strategic calls and driver errors this season. This has severely hampered Maranello’s title ambitions. However, it is clear that the 41-year-old is amused to find his former team in its current state and would perhaps enjoy further struggles of the Scuderia.
