The racing world lost another young talent today. Dilano Van’t Hoff passed away after a tragic accident at Spa-Francorchamps under wet weather conditions. The Dutch driver was only 18 years of age. Racing drivers across the globe paid respects to Van’t Hoff and advocated for change to prevent such a calamity in the future. Fernando Alonso raised concerns over poor visibility while racing in the rain.

The Spanish driver did not blame the Spa-Francorchamps circuit solely for Van’t Hoff’s catastrophic incident. Alonso believed that the issue is that drivers cannot see at all whenever one car is right in front of them in such conditions. He stated, “I don’t know if Spa is the issue. It could be the same issue at Spa. If you have one car in the middle of the straight, you won’t be able to see it, and that is the problem.”

Fernando Alonso is just one of many drivers who have been vocal about safety hazards in racing after Van’t Hoff’s death. Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll too has stated his concerns.
