“It will be a very different challenge,” Fernando Alonso wants to be “realistic” ahead of the Saudi Arabian GP
The two-time world champion is focused on Jeddah after his brilliant drive in Bahrain.

Fernando Alonso celebrated his 99th podium at the season opener in Bahrain International Circuit. It was his debut with Aston Martin, and he did not disappoint. The 41-year-old was elated. He was filled with an adrenaline rush after his brilliant drive. Alonso overtook Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes and Carlos Sainz in a Ferrari. The Formula 1 world celebrated the Spaniard’s spectacular performance.
It is time for the second race of the 2023 season in Saudi Arabia. Though Alonso enjoyed his first weekend with the team, he expects the second race to be challenging. Aston Martin has shifted its focus to this weekend in Jeddah. Alonso wants to be realistic this time around. The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is one of the fastest street circuits on the Formula 1 calendar.
Fernando Alonso told the Aston Martin media, “It will be a very different challenge there as it is a completely different circuit to what we experienced in the opening race. We spent two weeks in Bahrain, and all became very familiar with the circuit and conditions so the learning curve from this Friday will be a lot steeper”. The Spaniard feels that the teams spent a lot of time in Bahrain and got to know the circuit, but, it will be different this time.

Fernando Alonso aims to maintain his start and deliver a strong result in Jeddah
“Realistically I do not think it will be until after Australia that we will know better where the overall performance stands, as by then we will have had three very different race weekends on varied circuits in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Our feet remain on the ground and hard work is needed to maintain this start and try to get another strong result this weekend”.
Alonso hopes to keep the momentum going, and his teammate Lance Stroll also feels the same way. The duo put on quite a show at the season opener. They will face a certain amount of pressure to deliver in Jeddah. Alonso wants to be realistic, the two-time world champion feels that the true performance of the AMR23 will be known better in the upcoming races.
Fernando Alonso and his team will keep their heads down and work towards bagging another podium in round two of the 2023 Formula 1 season. The Spaniard is undoubtedly happy with his move from Alpine to Aston Martin. And the team is thrilled to have a world champion in their midst. All eyes will be on the showstopper this weekend.
