Ferrari confirms destruction of Charles Leclerc’s ICE and turbo in the blowout at the Azerbaijan GP

Ferrari and Charles Leclerc had yet another disappointment after acing the first the practice sessions and qualifying. The Italian Giants came into this weekend as second favorites due to Red Bull giving their drivers a new engine ahead of the weekend. This was definitely going to give both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez more power on the long straights of Baku.
But, that positive feeling quickly disappeared as both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc came out flying off the block in all the practice sessions. But, the biggest surprise came in qualifying as Leclerc stoked a stonking to comfortably take pole from Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. But, Red Bull was still considered to perform better on race day but Charles Leclerc was expected to give stiff competition.
It was exactly going how it was scripted before disaster struck and we saw Charles Leclerc’s F1-75 throwing out plumes of smokes and limping its way to the garage. Now, it’s being confirmed that there has been damage to the Internal combustion engine and the turbo. He has already used three turbos and another one of those will mean a 10 place grid penalty.

Charles Leclerc has also used 2 engines and might need a third one in just the ninth race. The Monegasque driver has the option of going to third one if it’s ready. All the teams have the option of using three engines in a season but if chooses to do that, he will leave himself to be vulnerable for the rest of this long season.
Red Bull also can’t see as to how Ferrari can go without taking a penalty this season. Helmut Marko said, “We want a fair fight.”
“Leclerc will now tap into a third engine and will have to change engines at least once or twice after that, with grid penalties being insurmountable,” as reported by planetf1.
The tables have turned for Red Bull as they have been beneficiary of Ferrari’s reliability concerns after facing some of their own in the initial few races. The onus is now on Ferrari to respond in order to stay in fight for both the championships.
