‘Ferrari is red but yellow is an important colour’: Former employee explains the historic significance of the Italian Giants’ new livery at Monza

Ferrari is running a special livery at Monza this weekend. While it is primarily the iconic red Tifosi know and love, it also features some yellow towards the upper bodywork of the car. Aside from that, the rear wings’ front-facing side also has ‘Ferrari’ written on it, white for Charles Leclerc and yellow for Carlos Sainz.

Some were surprised to see Ferrari opt for yellow-coloured racing suits, as the colour most associated with the team is: Red. There were certainly a lot of memes on the suits, but yellow is also an important colour for the Maranello-based team. After all, it features on their logo, and Enzo Ferrari had added it as it is the colour of Modena, his hometown.

Ernest Knoors, who formerly worked for Ferrari, feels the same way and said: “Nice, you can talk about that. Ferrari is red, but yellow is a very important colour in that area. The colour of the city is yellow-blue and it is also the colour of the Scudetto.” but admitted that: “I like the rear wing better than the yellow colour on the side.” as per GPBlog.

Can Charles Leclerc and Ferrari triumph in Monza once again?

Ferrari haven’t been at their best lately. Reliability issues and mistakes have been aplenty, but as it seems by the last few races, they have even fallen behind in the development battle, and their car has been pipped by Mercedes on the last two occasions. The rest of the season may bring a world of pain to the Scuderia, but they’ll hope that at least Monza is different.

The car looks second-best in Monza as well, which is certainly a shame but they’ll be hoping for the best result regardless. Carlos Sainz has a back-of-the-grid penalty, so he’ll be looking to recover the best he can. However, there is an advantage for Leclerc, as Verstappen, Perez and Hamilton are all going to take penalties. This means that the battle for pole position will likely be between him and George Russell.

The two are considered to be some of the best qualifiers on the grid, and George Russell is even called ‘Mr. Saturday’ so the battle should certainly be exhilarating. The catch is that Verstappen only has a 5-place grid penalty, which shouldn’t hinder him too much, and if the pace of the Red Bull is like it has been the past few races, he won’t have much trouble overtaking Leclerc.

But starting on pole is an advantage and exciting prospect by itself – It is Ferrari’s home race after all, and Charles Leclerc has done so once before, in 2019, where he also held off the Mercedes to take the victory. He may be in a similar position with Russell and Verstappen breathing down his neck this time, and Tifosi would surely love to see him come out on top once again.
