Lewis Hamilton’s contract at Mercedes is approaching its climax, with rumors circulating of possible departure to Scuderia Ferrari. The Italian outfit has reportedly offered the all-time great a sensational  $50 Million (£40 Million) deal to entice him into driving for them. However, according to F1 pundit Ted Kravitz, this isn’t an adequate offer for a driver of Hamilton’s stature.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast, Kravitz said, “Firstly I think the £40m offer is a bit of a low-ball offer for Lewis Hamilton – it’s probably £5m less than what he’s on at the moment – and is something Mercedes are going to offer as part of not only the remainder of his driving career but also a longer-term association with the Mercedes brand which is valuable to Lewis.”

He added, “They are after the best and the biggest in Formula 1 at the moment as they seek to rebuild so it shouldn’t be a surprise if they offer Lewis Hamilton everything. If it was £80m that John Elkann had said then that would get people’s attention.” A contract of this magnitude would be record-breaking and tough for Hamilton to decline.

Ted Kravitz believes Hamilton is unlikely to leave Mercedes unless they can provide a competitive car for him to win his eighth championship. If that happens, he might consider a move to Ferrari, although he would be in his 40s by then, mulling retirement.

A move for Lewis Hamilton could be on the cards if Mercedes doesn’t improve

Despite this extravagant offer from Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton has consistently expressed his commitment to Mercedes and his intention to remain with the team until the end. However, he aims to secure his eighth world title in the upcoming seasons. Mercedes has been unable to provide Lewis Hamilton with a car capable of winning the championship, marking this the second consecutive season without a championship-winning car.

Despite Hamilton’s patience and loyalty to Mercedes, he has not yet signed a new contract. As a result, speculation about his potential departure from the team has emerged. Both Toto Wolff and Hamilton have acknowledged that they are discussing a new contract, but no official announcements have been made.

Mercedes’ much-anticipated upgrades will be displayed at the upcoming Monaco GP, which is expected to turn its season around. If they prove successful, Mercedes will resolve one of their concerns. However, if the updates fail to improve the team’s performance, Hamilton may consider alternatives. It is reasonable to assume that Toto Wolff would not hinder him from departing if he desires to pursue his record-breaking championship with another team.

Driving for Scuderia Ferrari is a dream for every driver, so it is no secret that he would love to represent them. The outcome of this saga will be much awaited as the world yearns to know the future of the veteran.
